Initial Complaint

- Complaint Type:
- Service or Repair Issues
- Status:
- Unresolved
Business was called because they were on the AC manufacturer's website as being an approved vendor. Company came out same day that called and was onsite no more than 30 minutes. Employee was up in the attic checking AC unit and said he knew exactly what was wrong. At that time he came down from attic went to his truck then went back into attic. Did not tell me what was wrong or anything. After being in the attic for ~8 minutes he came down and said it was fixed and left. After I waited an hour the thermostat still read 72 degrees. 10 minutes after he left I received a bill for $550, it says it was for the part he apparently replaced and a charge for filing warranty (which the manufacturer told us we should not have that charge if he is an approved vendor). He said he misbilled us when I talked to him the next day and sent us a new bill that is $50 dollars cheaper and a change to the name of the charges. I called them the next morning to let them know that it was still not working and he came back out. My mom and grandmother were at the house while he was there the second time and he fiddled around with things and went outside but never returned. At this time the AC was still reading 72 (set to 68) and not blowing. He is now saying it was blowing when he left, without talking to anyone in the house, but when my husband got home two days later it was still not working. I 100% don't mind paying for the service call fee and I would not mind paying if it was actually fixed. He is currently charging us $499 for service call ($99) and warranty/labor ($400). I should not be charged warranty and labor should not cost $400 for 30 minutes of work. All invoices are attached.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2022/09/19) */ Notes from our software system: Upon arrival outdoor unit was running. The lines on the indoor and outdoor unit were freezing. There was no air flow inside. Customer escorted me to the attic where the air handler was located. Opened air handler, noticed the squirrel cage blower was not spinning. Turned power off, checked wiring and loose connections. I went and got my motor tester and the motor. The motor module was defective. I informed the customer and told her I had the part on hand and the repair was approved. I explained the part was under warranty but labor was not. Replaced module. Once running checked temperatures and had a 20 degree temperature drop. Lines were not freezing. Checked pressures and Freon. Module failed due to the wrong filters and double two inch filters. Unit is not registered to the customer or the customers address. It is registered to the neighbors address. Upon leaving informed I would call the grandfather and explain. Called grandfather and explained everything the following day, due to it being late in the evening when I left the customers home. Also the technician walked the customer thru diagnosis and price and customer agreed to have it fixed same day. If another issue arose it was not from the blower motor but when technician left system was running and blowing efficiently. System broke down due to improper. Services were rendered and customer just does not want to pay. Consumer Response /* (3000, 10, 2022/09/19) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Company did not go over ANY charges and at no time did we agree on the cost. We had 2 1 inch filters in system which is what the unit calls for and have picture evidence, not the 2 inch filters that the technician is saying. Technician did not stay long enough to determine if lines would refreeze. He was in and out of the house within 20 minutes including diagnosis and no air flow was shown when he left. Bill which is attached to the initial complaint is saying we are being charged for warranty, service, and service call ($499 total). We do not mind paying the $99 service call and 30 minutes of labor(which he told us he charges $100 per hour). Our total bill with this company is $499. We did find out that the builder registered the unit to the wrong address and owner but that is something I personally took care of with the manufacturer. I would go ahead and pay the service charge ($99) however in order to pay I am required to check a box agreeing that the services were completed to my satisfaction and I agree to their terms, which we do not. I want to make note that this technician NEVER got our AC up and working. My husband returned from a business trip******* later and was able to get the AC working. I had to go several days with the temps reading 78-83 degrees, but yet the technician is saying he got it working.
