I paid vehicle off over 18 months ago, still dont have title for vehicle. I have been in contact multiple times with lender. They cant resolve issue , multiple cases open " they state" with no resolve. Vehicle purchased 2016 New at ***** ***********, used my credit union Arkansas Best Federal Credit union. Paid vehicle off over 18 months ago. Title never came. Purchased as a NC resident , move to SC, registered the vehicle as required. Lien holder Arkansas never released title to SC as requested, since have moved back to North Carolina. Vehicle now paid. They state the ELT keeps failing with NC DMV. They have " tried" to correct with NC DMV several times. Current case ************ has now been opened. Bank states they have tried to speak with department and supervisor and no one will help or send them to someone that can help. Consumer , me did not cause issue. The lender should have followed process when I first moved and then again when I moved back . ***** should not have used wrong ELT number when processing the MCO when vehicle was purchased. I have a control number issue at NC DMV and the lienholder cant release lien because ELT number is wrong on file. Each month new story and new line of what we are trying to do. My sister has worked in auto industry for 25 year and has outlined the chain of events and issues . We have made countless call to SC DMV NC DMS and lien holder Arkansas Best Credit Union to mostly ******* in title department. For months on end will be resolved , should release , will be mailed and nothing has been done. No forward progress has been made. I paid for truck retail selling price with interest in full 18 months ago I need my title. Lender release lien on vehicle and provide me the title or refund amount paid for truck and interest from day vehicle paid off till now. This is truly unacceptable and could have been avoided with follow through for 18 months not just now when being forced. UNACCEPTABLE

      Business response

      06/20/2024

In response to the complaint filed by ******** ********, please see steps taken below.
On 8/1/2022 we attempted to release the ELT via *********** when the vehicle was paid off. Between that date and 5/9/2024 our title clerk attempted to request release of title multiple times but kept receiving an error messages from the DMV.   On 5/20/2024 we received a message saying there was an issue with the current title number.  At that point we were finally made aware of an error made by the DMV when the vehicle was purchased.  South Carolina ELT number was listed instead of North Carolina.  Our title clerk placed a ticket with the state to ask how the issue could be resolved. The states response was that the out of state title would need to be produced from us or ******** before they could release the correct NC title.   The credit union nor our member received a title from SC or NC, it appears both are on hold due to this issue. This was relayed to our member, and we cannot produce a previous title because one was never issued.   Our title clerk reached out to the NC state today 6/20 and spoke with a supervisor that informed her they had finally cleared the error and we should see the release process and title be mailed to ******** within a few days.
Our title clerk will contact the state every day until this issue is resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused ******** and are working diligently to assist the state with this issue.
