We purchased a Stihl MSA-220 C-B battery operated chain saw on 29 January, 2021, charged the battery, then used the saw until the battery ran down. We then recharged the battery and the chain saw started cutting out when about two bars remained on the battery. We recharged the battery and it ran until three green bars showed on the battery, at which point it resumed cutting out. In July we took the saw to Cleaver's in Huntsville, Arkansas, an authorized Stihl dealer. The saw was returned about three weeks later with a new battery, and when we tried to use the saw on 23 August, 2021 it cut out when there were three green bars showing on the battery, and then it quit entirely.
On 23 August we phoned the Stihl distributor in Malvern, Arkansas and spoke with Casey, who informed us that there were no refunds after seven days, but we could ship the saw to him, or take it back to Cleaver's.
On 25 August, 2021 we took the saw to The Hardware Store in Fayetteville, Arkansas (also an authorized Stihl dealership). Cody accepted the saw for repair, and as of today, 21 September, 2021, it is still at The Hardware Store awaiting parts.
Over a time period of eight months we have had use of this saw through one battery charge and part of another. This saw has turned out to be useless to us, and the propaganda we have received at both authorized Stihl repair shops and the Stihl distributor is that this is a great saw and no one else has had problems with it. If that is the case, then it would seem appropriate for Stihl to presume we got a lemon and send a new item. Instead we are waiting for a repair that may never happen. A three year warranty is useless if there is no repair available within a reasonable time and no replacement for an unusable item forthcoming.
