I am writing to file a formal complaint against RMJ Construction regarding our experience with their services. Our ordeal with RMJ Construction began in July 2023, and since then, it has been a distressing and anxiety-inducing journey for my family and me.Our interaction with RMJ Construction commenced when we were referred to them by ECO Dry due to a leak originating **************** sink. However, to our dismay, we were misled into signing a contract that we believed was solely to receive an estimate. This deceptive practice set the tone for our entire engagement with RMJ Construction.Subsequently, RMJ Construction is taking months to complete the repairs, citing delays purportedly caused by the insurance company. Despite assurances that all necessary funds (Over 80% of the money) had been disbursed by the insurance company, RMJ Construction (April, *******) has continuously stalled the completion of our project. They have inexplicably prolonged the installation of our countertops, which were supposed to have been completed months ago. In seven months, they have only come to our home one time.Furthermore, RMJ Construction installed cracked cabinets during their work, which they are now unwilling to replace, opting instead to patch them up. The protracted delay in completing the repairs has taken a severe toll on my family, particularly on my wife, who is a diabetic. Her health has deteriorated significantly during the seven months that we have been displaced from our home. RMJ Construction's blatant disregard for our well-being is unconscionable and demonstrates a shocking lack of empathy. We implore you to investigate this matter thoroughly and take appropriate action against RMJ Construction for its unethical business practices and woeful customer service. Please note that the repairs are still incomplete as of March 1, 2024.Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. We eagerly await your swift intervention and resolution to this situation.

This project was approved end of July 2023, communication was established immediately. Product options for cabinets & countertops were discussed on 7/27. Homeowner expressed immediate dissatisfaction with the plumber for an unexpected $5,000 expense. *********** informed RMJ that the plumber would address the leak 8/3. Homeowner requested that RMJ postpone repairs. On 8/29, the homeowner reinitiated contact & asked to proceed. The cabinet rendering process was initiated by RMJ as quickly as possible on 9/4. RMJ submitted two supplements between August-December, one was to petition the insurance company for a temporary sink on behalf of the homeowner, the other was to request additional funds for the cabinets & countertops which were not reusable. Despite frequent follow *** with insurance, they waited until 9/27 to issue approval. RMJ promptly purchased & installed cabinetry in the home on 10/7. Subsequent to the approval, all relevant paperwork was promptly updated & signed by the homeowner on 10/3, allowing for RMJ to order & install the cabinets. After cabinetry was installed, issues with the material arose from the homeowner. RMJ agreed to replace the materials in question, however the homeowner refused to sign updated paperwork reflecting the new estimated date of completion & the updated job total post supplement approval. Without signatures that acknowledged the new job total & timeline the work could not move forward, and RMJ was forced to continue to ask for updated signatures. Efforts to secure a response from the homeowner regarding signed documents proved futile. Despite persistent efforts from RMJ to engage the homeowner & address concerns, their reluctance to participate has impeded progress. Without the homeowner's cooperation, the completion of necessary repairs, including the purchase of countertops, remains unachievable. Moving forward, resolution hinges upon the homeowner's willingness to collaborate & finalize the necessary paperwork to proceed.

rmj construction had more then enough time to resolve the situation. Doesn't take 4 to 5 months to replace cabinets and the insurance company approved them for the extra money to get the countertops. We choose our counteracts almost 5 months ago and they stop responding. They want us to sign another contract and they haven't finished anything. Still have no sink and they were seeking all the money up front in order to finish the work. It's not hard to come finish a job if they really wanted to. They came with the new contract 4 plus month after installing the cabinets that still have fixed.

The conclusion of the ***** project has regrettably  been postponed due to the reluctance of endorsing the additions to the scope of work. While initial documentation was signed at the beginning of the job, supplements were required, as the original scope of work excluded the necessary lines and dimensions to restore the ***** kitchen to pre-loss condition. RMJ's estimating team was employed to secure the supplemental funds needed to complete the restoration of the ALI' ******** Of which one of those supplements was to install a temporary sink to allow the ***** a more comfortable living environment during the reconstruction process. However, on the day of installation the homeowner elected to not install the temp sink stating that since they had made due up to this point there is no longer any need. Consequently updated documents are needed from the ***'s confirming they understand that the additional funds are intended for facilitating the repair of their property and will be paid to us upon completion of the job. Attempts in person, via email, Text, and phone call to deliver and explain this to the ***'s so that work could commence. Unfortunately, these attempts have not been met with much in the way of cooperation. We are ready and willing to facilitate the repairs in a timely fashion provided we can either get the updated documents signed or we discuss a new scope for the work. These decisions rest with the homeowners and we would be happy to assist in either situation.

I am writing in response to the recent communication regarding the postponement of our project with RMJ Construction.
While we understand the need for supplements to the original scope of work, we must clarify the reason behind our decision not to proceed with the installation of the temporary sink. The main issue was that our kitchen cabinets were left open during the reconstruction process, and we were concerned about water potentially damaging the brand new cabinets. Given this concern, we decided to forego the temporary sink to avoid any potential damage.
We acknowledge the need for updated documents to confirm our understanding of the additional funds required for the repair of our property.  However, we did not received clear communication from RMJ Construction regarding the purpose of these documents, which has made it difficult for us to proceed.
We appreciate your assistance in facilitating communication between us and RMJ Construction to ensure a satisfactory resolution to this matter.

I was planning on using RMJ Contruction until they requested over $2000 up front for a small repair job and wanted me to sign an agreement that the company would not be liable for any damages. I have worked with contractors in the past and never been asked for this time of thing. When I questioned it the reply was this is their practice and if I did not continue with them I would receive a statement that I owed them over $900. I have received no services from the company other than a bid. If this information had been forth coming when we first spoke, I would not have had RMJ bother to give me a bid at all.

RMJ Construction visited the water damaged residence and provided an estimating service for the homeowner. The estimating team compiled a complete breakdown of the necessary items required to fully restore the home to it's previous condition; submitted it to the homeowner's insurance and garnered an approval on behalf of the insured. RMJ uses licensed bonded and insured contractors who warranty their work and perform flawless repairs all around the **************, and it is standard practice for a construction company to collect a minimum of 50% of the job total in order to cover a portion of the overhead and materials while the project is underway.  The approval is only possible after the homeowner signs a work authorization which is clearly explained in the home and includes a cancellation fee that is in place to cover the overhead spent gathering the approval. RMJ would be happy to re-open this project and apply the cancellation fee toward the rebuild cost and move forward with performing the work if the client would like to proceed.

The estimate they turned into my insurance company is fraudulent. They put things on there that weren’t done. The paint was wrong color. When I ask them about the paint color they said my insurance said I had to have the same color it was before. When I talked to my insurance adjuster, he said that wasn’t true. It’s my bathroom and I could have what ever color I wanted ! The quality of work was very bad. Didn’t use masking when painted and also didn’t remove mirror and towel racks until I called them out on it. Also put drywall replaced in estimate and they didn’t put any new drywall up and charged on the estimate 375.49 to replace drywall!! They added a patch that was already fixed by me and added it to the estimate as if they fixed it and charged my insurance $111.03 !! Also when they painted the walls they let the paint run and didn’t fix the the drywall where it was damaged by water until I said something. So he sent a different crew out to fix some of the mistakes and to reset my new toilet . The new crew came and painted over where they messed up and fixed the the bottom of a small area on the bottom of the wall and painted over it. Well this crew didn’t let the paint dry and went ahead and put the new toilet in without letting the paint dry first!! The tank of the toilet stuck to the paint so if I ever have to remove the tank it’s going to pull all the paint off the wall !! The tile they used nine and a half sheets of large tile . My bathroom is small so it didn’t take a lot and charged insurance $306.35 for just the tile. The first crew didn’t reset all of the baseboard. Had to come back to fix it! Some other things didn’t patch holes by the mirror. I believe this company is doing fraudulent claims . I just happened to get caught up in there schemes of probably what they have been doing to a lot of their customers. I know that RMJ and EcoDry are are doing this together . This is what it seems like and they to make this right !! I have paid them $1700.00 so far far and not a penny more until this gets resolved!! They are threatening to even put a lien on my house and I’m outraged about this response from a Company that seems to make this a habit doing fraudulent claims!!!

The homeowner expressed some concerns with the plumbing and the detach and reset of a few items. After meeting with the homeowner, I sent a crew back out to address her concerns & take care of the remaining items on her list. After completion, I attempted to collect the
final payment, however, the homeowner refused. After consulting with her as to why,
she expressed additional concerns & I was able to make the following determinations:
      1. Insurance only approved for one coat of paint on the bathroom walls. We color
matched the existing paint color & repainted all the walls the same color. She wanted a different color after work was done, however, because insurance only approved one coat of paint we did not repaint her walls.
      2. The paint marks on the homeowner’s baseboards & metal shower trim were
pre-existing conditions. I was able to provide the homeowner pictures of her bathroom
before my crew came out to do any work. The pictures proved that there was paint on the
baseboards & metal trim before RMJ Construction performed any work at all. The
homeowner tried to blame us for these marks of paint even after I
provided pictures of the original bathroom.
      3. The holes above the mirror were also pre-existing. The homeowner told me that my crew
made the holes & did not patch them up, but again, I was able to find pictures proving
that the holes were there before we started any work. Regardless of this, I still offered to
send my crew back out to patch the holes for her, but she refused to have my guys out
      there again.
      4. Insurance did not approve to replace any drywall in the bathroom, only small repair work
      which we did.
      5. My crew installed the toilet after the walls were painted. Because the homeowner
purchased a larger toilet than she originally had, the toilet touches the back wall &
therefore is pressed up against the paint. That is unavoidable.

This company has been getting away with putting things on the estimate that they didn’t do. For instance the dry wall patch on the wall was patched by me way before they were ask to do an estimate also they put replace dry wall on the estimate and charged my insurance $450.59 to replace it and they didn’t replace any drywall. On the patch that I patched they charged my insurance  $111.03 and they didn’t patch it! They never ask me what color of paint I wanted and told me the insurance said to paint it the same color and that is another big lie! The paint on my door frame, which I posted pictures of it was from them not masking before painting. I wasn’t even talking about the base boards!  The new toilet I purchased was SMALLER than the other toilet! They sent another crew out to fix the problems and had to fix the drywall paint on the bottom on the left hand corner and the paint where they let it run and that was where the toilet had to go! Ya they painted over it and didn’t let it dry before they put the toilet in and the tank of the toilet stuck  to the paint! If I have to remove the tank it take all the paint off the WALL!! They didn’t even remove the mirror and paint under it until I called them out on it. I told the project manager that I patched that patch and he said nothing! I ask him several times to go over the estimate with him  and no response . He was so nervous and kept dropping things and still didn’t go over it with me . My daughter was here and she deals with insurance all the time and I think that made him really nervous! This Company is doing fraudulent estimates and not doing what they said on the estimate. I will have to go to the ROC and put in a complaint about RMJs fraudulent claims not only on my bathroom but I see a lot of complaints about this company claiming they do fraudulent estimates. I will also make a fraudulent claim against this company with my insurance company! They need to be stopped!!

This has caused anxiety and loss of sleep. RMJ was recommended by Eco dry. I was under the expression that I was hiring a contractor there was no disclosure of it being subcontracted. Before the job even stated I noticed some red flags. I had two different companys that RMJ contracted to do the work. **** my project manager has been kind but the people they do the work are not professional. Who says I will send my detailed guy to do your tile work tile work is all detailed , gaslighting me. **** from RMJ was kind and met with me early morning to go over the issues. He agreed that the work needs to be re done . I do have concerns because the company that came out didnt do it right to begin with asking me to change the grout color to cover there mistakes. I had tiles before on my shower and mosaic tiles on the floor never had an issue with the uneven , leveled tiles or grout. I am losing sleep over the fact that they ruined one bathroom and now they have to ruin the next. I had to file ROC report for the poor work done and building confidence claim. I dont want the subcontractors thinking because I am Woman they can take advantage of me. I know for a fact that the bathtub shouldnt have the Sheetrock touching the lip of the tub I can already see the issues before get start. I am losing sleep over the fact that theyre going to batch the job. They need to have someone come out and inspect it before starting . I should be able to stick a credit card and touch the lip If its not touching the tub but it it. They shouldnt start putting tiles until that is addressed. I dont have confidence in them. I really hope to change my review for RMJ for the positive.

RMJ acts as a general contractor, meaning *********** the work to a number of our subcontractors. It is not uncommon to see a number of tradesmen come in throughout the rebuild process based on their particular skill set. All contractors used by RMJ are licensed and we stand behind their work with a 2 year workmanship warranty. During the rebuild of a tiled shower it was determined the quality was not meeting our standards, and that the shower would be fully redone. We hope that our continued cooperation in addressing any quality issues, will allow us to come to a product that you can be proud of.

if you dont want to lose the value of your home dont hire them. If you dont want to end up in the hospital because of the health issues they have caused dont hire them. If you want your life back dont hire them. Just do your self a favor dont hire them. I understand there not the one working on the job and they are hiring subcontractors but when it comes to collecting the big checks they are willing to except that but not take responsibility of who they hire.

RMJ was doing work on our kitchen. They were doing real low-quality work and causing further damage as the work was being done. They at one point tried to stop doing the work and wanted us to still pay them half of the final money. I refused that and requested that they finish the work. They hired another company to finish the work and that company was paid in full, not costing RMJ any further money due to the other company finishing the work. RMJ originally said we could pay them $850, then after the other company finished the work, they increased their amount to $1600. After I told them that amount was wrong, they stated that we owed them $1009. I the agreed to pay that amount just to get them satisfied and out of our lives and when they sent the link to pay, it was over $1400 and blamed it on a clerical error and said that if we do not pay them, they would file a lien against us if we do not pay them in full. I am simply requesting that the amount be adjusted to the original amount and when it is, I will pay that amount.

We had a water leak in our condo. The home warranty sent a water mitigation company over. They called in RMJ for a quote to reconstruct. We were headed out of town and RMJ met my husband to go over the timeline. They asked him to sign a work estimate and permission to test for asbestos. This all happened while we still not know the source of the leak. RMJ drilled holes in the wall hung plastic up with duct tape so it damaged the paint and left. We did not have water as it was left off and we still did not know the source of the leak. I got back in touch with home warranty and they said it was the refrigerator and there was no need for water to be off. I contacted RMJ and was told they were waiting for the estimate from insurance.i was suspicious that they were going to give the estimate based on what they knew insurance would pay. I got an estimate from another company that was $2000: below what RMJ quoted. Then we started getting calls that RMJ wanted to get ** on the schedule and when we said that we were using someone else and the job is almost done, they said I-signed a contract. I said we signed an agreement to get an estimate. It was always called an estimate. I also said they had a poor rating with BBB. Then I received the notice of a mechanic lien. I really hate to spend money on an attorney but I prefer that to an unethical business. Thank you in advanced for any help you can provide.

      Business response

      05/04/2023

      Hello,

The notice you received is not a true mechanic's lien, it is however a pre-lien notice. All jobs over $3,500 are sent a pre-lien notice by a third party company. It is not an actual lien but a notice in case there are any issues with payment of the claim. Please call into our main office and we will direct you to a supervisor to go over the work authorization and find a resolution.

We have had 2 poor experiences: May-June 2022. It took over a month for the bathroom to be functional. The completion of the bathroom was also poorly done. The communication we received from your team was lacking, the contractor he did not have the necessary supplies, including the paint for the walls. The communication between him and your company was unclear. He did a poor job on the tile grout, which had multiple gaps and holes, including a large portion missing near the back of the toilet. He left out necessary items such as a holder for the toilet paper to install, which I had to purchase even thought it was quoted to be provided. The painting was also not up to our standards, as he had left staples and the paint on the walls had the correct color but the wrong finish, making it obvious where he had painted. He patched the ceiling where there were staples but the patch is a different color than the ceiling.2nd project: On the day of the repair (Friday 3/17/23), the contractor, ****, asked for a hose to drain the hot water tank and he requested that we help him put the water heater back in place. He did not realize there was damage to the interior of the house that needed repair until I pointed it out. (Poor communication) and he unplugged our garage fridge, which was discovered over 24 hours later. We lost approximately $560 worth of food. First rebuild was paid in full (2 payments of $3184.14 on 6/9 and 6/29. We have paid the first half of the 2nd rebuild $2083.06 on 3/16/23. The 2nd half is due at the completion of the project.

I was referred by the mitigation company to have them estimate for repair of my kitchen. I had filed a claim with my insurance and they were taking too long to approve my claim. I sent the cancelation form to cancel the contract before the 3 day deadline. My claim had not been approved. I asked them to cancel my project even sent the signed form. Then once my claim gets approved I reached out and they said they can't start my project without 75% upfront. I send the form again. Because I can't see paying them all that upfront. They aren't very proactive with communicating. At this rate it will be months before I get My kitchen repaired. Now they are saying they want me to pay them 25,% and $1000 to cancel. It's ridiculous. They have my cancelation on file before anything was approved.

On April 23, 2022 RMJ contracted a company to install new granite countertops at my residence. When installing the bathroom countertops they broke both my water valves and I had to contact RMJ for someone to come repair them. When installing my island countertop they had several issues when installing. They had to remove the slab after it was set. In August I started noticing a crack on the edge of the island on the overhang. I called RMJ immediately and told them what happened. RMJ tried to blame the company where I purchased the granite. I had to purchase the new slab on my own and find a new company to install it. The new company removed the old slab and found several issues (3 other small cracks due to installation, an area was glued, and three sections of weak wood used to support the entire slab (the weakest piece was placed on the overhang of the island). The installers mentioned several times that this was a very poor job. I contacted ******* from RMJ and showed him what the granite looked like underneath and he apologized and stated I spoke with **** (his supervisor) and he agrees there is enough clear evidence that the granite installation was poor workmanship... I have a couple of emails from the company stating they would take care of this for me. After going back and forth the company would not agree to give me the full amount. They offered to waive the $951.91 that my insurance (Allstate) provided me to give to RMJ. I asked about the amount for the new slab that I had to purchase and they refused to pay. On November 15th I told them that this was unfair and poor ethics of a company and was going to report them to the BBB and take them to small claims court if I had to. I never got a response or apology. I am asking for the amount of the new slab of $1595.00. I would appreciate any help in this matter before taking the company to small claims court.

It's been a year since my kitchen had a bad leak that required half of my kitchen to become useless. I was only able to enjoy my repaired kitchen for a couple months before things started falling apart and become useless again. Our cabinet broke on Thanksgiving day 2021 and we had to take out the two drawers of utensils because they would not stay up. I figured out that the bottom of the cabinet collapsed and pushed the face of the cabinet forward to where the metal things that hold up the drawers were no longer attached to the back of the cabinet in order to hold up the drawers. December was a Covid filled month so RMJ couldn't send anyone out to take a look, but I have been going back and forth with CJ from RMJ since January. The subcontractors finally came out at the beginning of March 2022 to take a look and said that the cabinet needed to be rebuilt and took the face of the cabinet with them. It's been a month and they supposedly have our cabinet rebuilt and ready to install. They were supposed to come and do the installation on April 14 - but did not show - which I have found a common trait with this company. To top it all off, the cabinet that has the giant drawers for pots and pans, ended up breaking, making that part of the cabinets useless as well. Just like the original broken cabinet, the drawers no longer stay up in this cabinet either. I just want my kitchen fixed to how it was before the water damaged everything a year ago. I think waiting 5 months for this is more than reasonable and I am done trying to be understanding on whatever excuse I am given. I need this work to be completed and hopefully soon. I am attaching pictures on what my kitchen currently looks like - including pictures of the drawers that are taking up counter space and all of the items that are currently being stored in boxes.
