I may be mistaken, but I believe the advertised price of an item on the shelf has to be the price at checkout. When I presented a pack of Wrigleys bubble gum for paying, the attendant asked for 50 cents instead of the 35 cents that was clearly marked on the pack of gum. 15 cents as a markup is not the issue, the stores’ refusal to honor the marked price is. Furthermore, the gasoline price is advertised as ten cents less per gallon if paid with cash. The electronic sign where the price is advertised shows the words “cash price” underneath the price in 3 inch letters, while the numbers above are at least 15 inches causing customers to believe the advertised price is the true price when in fact it’s ten cents more if a card is used to pay for the gas. At night, from the pumps, the “cash price “ is very difficult to see. People are tricked into paying what they believe is one price when in fact it is another, ten cents more, if paid with a debit or credit card.
