    My Realtor recommended them to the buyers of my home. *** did the inspection and when it came to the fireplace he stated that it was not working so the new buyers wanted it fixed. I had just spent ****** in two visits from Fire By ***** and the fireplace was working. I had them come back out at the cost of ****** and it was working fine. The inspector didnt engage the handle completely so the fireplace wont start until you do completely engage. It states that on the fireplace and clearly *** did not read that. His response to me was he is not a fireplace guy. Well that is certainly true but he can read and he is an inspector. I asked him to please reimburse me the ****** since he did not read the tag above the fireplace and follow directions. He said it was my fault because I live here and couldnt start it. I have a picture of the sign on the front of the fireplace I could share with you. My husband passed away on April 17 and Im doing things on my own for the first time. I feel like I was taken advantage of by this company. The careless response I got from *** Sullivan makes me feel that he is not equipped to be an inspector . He made the issue my fault and took no responsibility.

    Hello Theresa, You and your listing agent were present when the inspector had an issue operating the natural gas fireplace and asked for your assistance. You went through the same steps multiple times to operate it and it did not function for you as well. You stated that you bought the home new in 2007 and have been using it for many years. The fireplace initially was functioning and then sporadically failed and would not function properly. The report also stated that the flue damper was a safety concern due to improper venting that can allow CO2 off gases into the home (Safety Concern). When inspecting a natural gas appliance, the inspector must use extreme safety procedures to not put anyone at risk as we are not licensed fireplace technicians. In 15 years, we have never had a complaint like this as we are always going to err on the side of caution, and we always know our contractual/fiduciary responsibility is to our client's (the buyers) safety and not to please the seller regardless of the situation.
