In Dec 2019, Smith and Taylor installed a rear lamp assembly on the right side of my vehicle. Smith and Taylor has the invoice for this work. The amount paid was $334 inclusive to labor and parts. (Inv #62720). On Nov 30 2023 I had to take my vehicle to another professional auto shop because this rear light section had not been working and I wanted to get an estimate for repairs. As I was concluding the conversation, I asked why did this issue occur. the issue was that the circuit board and burned out-fried because water entered into that space. I asked how and they told me that whomever installed that did not secure it properly leaving its crevices opened enough that over time (when the car would be washed or rain would hit that area) the water burned the circuit board causing the light assembly to go out. Smith and Taylor states that it would have gone out much sooner by such an issue and they claim (the parts and labor) was under warranty. Warranty does not include negligence by installing the part. The part failed because the technician was negligent in the installation. Had the part been properly installed, the light assemble would not have failed and there would be no issue. Therefore, the warranty is void due to that reason. Warranty is not an absolute when negligence is evidence. Is warranty valid if tires are installed on a vehicle by the bolts are not secured via specs and therefore one or more tires come loose? Of course not.
