On 01/14/23 at 7:30pm, I went to the movie theater with my husband and my 6 week old son. This was the first time I had been out since giving birth. I was excited to see the new Avatar movie which has been out for a few weeks. When my husband and I were at the ticket counter we were told that we had to pay for a seat for our newborn son if he was to stay in his carseat. They then pointed to a sign that said no car seats or strollers unless ticket purchased. With RSV, flu and COVID so bad, I prefer to have my baby in his career with a cover on to protect him as much as possible. My husband and I live with limited income and saved money to see this movie. It was very frustrating that this was a rule and I feel like it was a money grab. I could understand if that was a rule on opening night or even opening weekend while ticket sales are high and there are limited seats but there were less than 20 people including us in the whole theater. My husband then asked how much a ticket costs for kids and they responded “2-18 years, $8”. Then my husband asked them how much for 1 and under, they responded “free”. So their policy about car seats/strollers is contradictory. They also told us that I bring in my diaper bag which had a change of clothes for my son, diapers, wipes and my wallet. They said it could go in the car or in the managers office. I’ve never heard those rules at any other movie theater and it was a very frustrating experience. I understand that it was not the employees fault, they were just enforcing the company policy, so we ended up putting both things in our car and decided to try and make a change through the owner/manager. Then I held my 6 week old through the movie which made my first night out postpartum utterly miserable. I wish them to discontinue their policies and offer mothers and families an enjoyable night out because, isn’t that what the movies are all about!? I would like a response from a representative concerning my complaint.
