9/29/21 we hired SH&D for a kitchen remodel. We paid a 50% deposit of $38,316. Project Manager/Contractor was *************************, who we later learned had his own contracting licenses revoked in 2020. The owner, *******************, appears to be uninvolved in day-to-day operations. New ********************** were to be ordered & installed, and additional labor for demolition, electrical & plumbing revisions, raising ceilings, removing walls, relocating air ducts, repair and painting of drywall, etc. was planned. Cabinetry costs were bundled into one charge which included cabinets, installation labor, specialty pull-outs, finish carpentry, and even a house cleaning fee. Mid-December, faced with manufacturing & supply chain issues, we significantly reduced the amount of work we wanted done and made a few changes to the cabinetry order (placed only days earlier). We requested a **** credit. In January, we viewed the countertop slabs they had put on hold for us and found them unsatisfactory. We chose another, far less expensive material. We again requested a credit. We asked to speak directly with the owner and for weeks faced *************************, obfuscation, and even a request for MORE money. The credits due us would have exceeded our final progress payment. After the owner (whom we had only met briefly in October) cancelled two meetings at the last minute, we hired an attorney and fired SH&D. The owner then proceeded to produce a series of false, misleading, and back-dated documents attempting to show that they owed us little or no refund, even though the actual cabinets were the only thing they were going to provide no labor, none of the construction. Furthermore, in the course of waiting for the kitchen remodel to commence, ******************* tried to broker a roofing job with an unlicensed contractor off-the-books (we believe he was getting a kick-back) an illegal act. They continue to refuse refund. As of today, no cabinets have been delivered.
