Hello. This is a response to a complaint (ID# ******** / *****************************) I received from your office on Monday. Sound like ****************** is upset that the spa controller I installed in his rental property hot tub a few months has failed. Unfortunately his spa controller was damaged by rodents chewing through the wires. The manufacturer's warranty does not cover rodent damage. I'm sure that's why he called a handyman instead of me when it happened. Since he had a handyman and not a hot tub technician working on the spa controller, that also voids the warranty. As a last resort he is trying to guilt trip me into helping him. I have nothing to do with the manufacturer's warranty and it is out of my control. I offered to come help him out and do another diagnosis to see what all the rodent damage has caused. We charge a $100 diagnosis/trip fee to his area because it is an hour away from our shop. I do not trust this customer because he likes to dictate how much he wants to pay for service. He already made me lower my initial charges after I helped him out in a pinch the day before his rental guest were showing up. This is why we ask that he pay for services up front for now on. We have hundreds of customers and he is the only one we ask of this. I have tried to reason with him on the phone but he likes to use phrases like "your holding me hostage". If he feels this way, he can go with another spa technician.
