May 2021 Hudson Construction operating as Hudson Roofing offered to re-roof my home. They promised that it would be mostly covered by my house insurance, and I only needed to sign over the insurance check to them when it was issued to me. I did so, they estimated the cost. That was the last I saw of them. They did not do any work at all. I had to spend $4200. of my own money to begin to have the roof replaced by another company. That September my husband died of Kidney failure and Multiple Myeloma cancer. They kept promising results until I had to sell my house to downsize in January 2022. This has caused much hardship since I am living on **************************** told me that Hudson Construction is out of business.Initial Complaint

In October 7, 2021, *****************************, Manager and *****************************, roof person of Hudson Construction Az knocked on our door and offered their services for roof replacement and that they will spearhead all negotiations with our insurance company. Written agreement docs were signed and dated same date.The Insurance adjuster came to assess roof condition on Oct. 21, 2021. After inspection, he issued a check for $2,769.93 to fix what he assessed as the damages on the roof only, not a total replacement. The check was turned over to them (****** and *****) as per the condition of them taking care of all negotiations with the insurance. They were very convincing in telling us (spouse and myself) that they will be able to convince the insurance company to agree in replacing the whole roof by way of submitting additional pictures and videos and rely on their expertise and substantial experience dealing with insurance companies. A total roof replacement was okayed by the insurance after 3 months or so and a check for $8,125.67 was mailed to us in late February, 2022. This check was handed over to ***************************** on March 25, 2022. The total amount 2 checks turned over to them was $10,895.60. Succeeding months from April, 2022 till July, 2022 were very similar to the complaint filed dated 06/27/2022. From one excuse to another like they have only one crew at the moment, materials delivered were different from what we chose, their crew went to visit their families in ******, there was a fire at the warehouse where they get their roof materials, covid, their truck is in ****** etc etc. Came July 8, received a text message from *****************************, Manager and contact person, to direct any questions to a phone number she provided which turned out to be a ********************* Can't get feeling humiliated and disgusted for having your trust in people get betrayed and shattered!Initial Complaint

In 10/06/2021, Hudson Construction and Restoration agents, *************************** and ***************************** came to my residence and sold me a contract to replace the roof on my home. They received $8300 from my ***************************** on 10/22/2021. They kept coming up with excuses of why they couldn't set a time to reroof my house. On 7/25/2022, I was told by *************************** that Hudson Construction and Restoration had filed bankruptcy. In researching more on this company, I have found that *************************** and ***************************** have a business at the exact location under the name of ********* Construction and Restoration. Now I think this was all a scam, I'm a 72 year old retired woman on a fixed income. I want my money back so that I can hire another contractor to reroof my house.Initial Complaint

In May of 2021 it was established that Hudson Construction AZ, *** would repair my roof to whatever extent my homeowners insurance approved it for. In June 2021, they were paid $3,394 to begin work on a full roof replacement. I was given an estimate of September 2021 for the work to be done. Of the course of many months, the work was continually deferred and I was dismissed. I have soft place in my heart for family-owned businesses impacted by the pandemic so it was my decision to extend ***** to these individuals and be patient. With the exception of the beginning of our relationship, those representing Hudson Construction AZ, *** would never proactively reach out to me with updates or to provide any level of transparency while I waited month after month. When it became clear that they were taking advantage of me, or potentially behaving fraudulently, I began asking about a refund. The *** refused request for a phone call and non-responsive via email. I requested termination and refund, officially, on July 5th via email and certified letters to address on record. I was never given a contract to which both contractor and homeowner signed, but Ive attached what I have. Im also providing further detail of my experience in log format, proof of payment and copies of business card of the two individuals I dealt with. What I hope to achieve with this complaint is a return of my money and to warn other consumers to steer clear of Hudson Construction AZ, ***.Initial Complaint

Came and did an estimate for a roof on my house in April 2022. Got the check from Insurance May 2022. Was told to give the color of the roof On May 16th 2022 when they received the check from the insurance company. I did as asked and was told we were on the books to have our roof replaced the last week of June 2022. When I checked in with ****** June 15th **************************************************************************************************************************************** the hospital and was going to die and she would check the schedule date when she returned. Never heard from her so I called her the Thursday after she was back in town and then was told that due to the rise in gas prices, they would have to resubmit a claim to my insurance company for more money as the cost of supplies was rising. I asked her when she knew about this and she stated about 3 weeks prior, I then asked her why we were not informed of this as this was around the time, they were to order our supplies for the roof and why did I have to call her to get his information. She had no real answers to any of my questions and stated that she was submitting the new request to the insurance company, and they were having to resubmit to a lot of insurance companies for more money, I then asked if mine had been submitted and she stated no it will be done by Friday the 17th of June. I followed up with my insurance company and it took her 2 extra days past the date she said she and that is only because I was on her daily. Sence then I have been Ghosted from the company from text emails and phone calls with no responses. I am asking for a full refund of Over $7,6XX.** so we can go with another company as this one does not know what they are doing. When I stated and gave them a deadline of July 15th 2022 to have the roof completed by or we will be getting a refund and going to another business all ****** could say is ok thank you. I will be taking to courts if needed have all documents.Initial Complaint

In March 2021, I contracted with Hudson Construction to re-roof my older roof. They told me that since it was old, my insurance company would cover most of the cost. One of their men came and spent an hour or less walking over the roof and evaluating what needed to be done. They promised me that they would be coming out by June and getting it done. My homeowners insurance cut me a check for $4200. made out to me and Hudson told me to sign it over to them to begin the process. I did so.No one contacted me in June 2021 and I called ***************************** to find out when the roofers would come. She said that they were very busy, Covid had slowed them down, and they would be coming to work on the roof in August. I also called ***************************, who also put me off. My husband was dying of cancer and I was very distracted, so I didn't call again until August. ******* again put me off, half their crew had left the US for their homeland and work was piled up. September came, more excuses came, and my husband passed away.In October, the excuses were plentiful but not a worker showed up. My finances demanded that I sell the property, and ******* promised to have the roof on before Christmas. It didn't happen. I had to move out in December to prepare to sell my home. In January 2022, ***************************** promised my insurance company to re-imburse me the $4200. that they took without any work or effort to make good on the roof. Hudson Construction never kept one promise they gave me. They never returned a ***** to me.Basically, they stole the money from me after spending about an hour on my roof. They are unreliable at best, and very dishonest at worst. I am a senior citizen on fixed income, a widow, and definitely harmed by their cruel behavior.Initial Complaint

Hudson Construction has essentially stolen over 10 k from my family. They had us file a claim with our insurance for a new roof and were great in getting this done quickly. At first it seemed like they were doing it for us but over time Ive come to believe this company is just scamming hard working families out of money. They were paid the full amount of the insurance claim over a year ago and for over a year they have given us nothing but excuses as to why they were not able to even begin the work ranging from raises in lumber, Covid, death in the family, labor shortages, etc. in February I decided enough was enough and I requested a full refund of the money paid to them but to date have given no date as to when we could expect said refund. We just want our money back so we can get our roof replaced since the condition of the roof is getting worse over time. Very disappointed with how they have handled this situation and just want this long and painful experience to be over.Business response

Hudson Construction is happy to give a refund to this customer per the terms of the agreement. However, this customer did not account for the weeks in which we reached out to her and she did not respond. After many calls and emails, we finally learned the customer had changed their phone number. During this time we went ahead with other customers who were waiting for their roofs. Also, the timeframe is incorrect. ********************* did not send the *** amount for 3 months. This put the job well behind other customers and we told the insurance company and the customer this at the time.Initial Complaint

We signed a contract for new roof in July of ******************************************** a copy of our contract. Business has cashed our insurance deposit of $3827.27 and now refuses to give us a full refund of that deposit. This business has made promise after promise to show up and fix our roof and has not done so.Only after many emails and than a threat to contact BBB and ROC have they said they would return our deposit otherwise they would only give us a refund less the 25% cancellation fee for a balance of *******, which again we have never received a copy of our contract even after I requested via email.My contact at Hudson Contruction has been ***************************** ************** I have all email communication between myself and this contact.Please advise.Looking forward to hearing from you *************************Business response

We are happy to refund per the terms of our agreement and a copy was left with her. This customer was not given enough money from her insurance company to do the roof, she was turned down the first time and we helped her and then began to fight the insurance company to pay for a roof replacement which takes time and like most small businesses labor has been a challenge but we are still getting to everyone. ****************** does not want to wait any longer and we understand that. We are refunding her money and have never said otherwise. All she had to do is wait and we would get to her roof even if we took a loss.Customer response

Please have company send us a copy said contract or agreement. We would like the FULL refunded deposit of $$3827.27. This company keeps saying they will put a roof on but they have continually canceled.
Hudson Contruction has promised, once again, to repair our roof but the integrity of this company has been compromised in our eyes. It has been over 7 months and there is additional damage to the inside of our home because of the delay.
