I went to AEC for glaucoma treatment and had aprox. 6 appointments- all with * * *******. In the months I saw her, my IOP never went down despite a succession of drops prescribed. This may or may not be due to her abilities. The essential reason I did not continue under her care was due to the extreme waiting times and their failure to give or let me see my medical records. It was never less than 2 hours to be seen, then up to 30m to work with the MA's or be directed to a secondary waiting room, then to have a brief meeting of 10-20m with the doctor. MA's and the doctor herself to be a bit frazzled and under a lot of pressure to move through patients. This didn't inspire confidence in me as a patient. AEC is a high volume business with patient care in the lower priorities -- and profits at the highest. I'd advise anyone going there to get your med records as you go -- or you may not get them at all. In my case, when I decided to dismiss AEC, I asked for my med records to be copied as my next doctor might need them and I wanted them for my own records - as is my right. AEC insisted on wanting to charge me for my own records. They were belligerent in claiming it was their policy. It is completely against the law and spirit of HIPPA to deny a patient his records or to attempt to profit from same. In my case - it would amount to perhaps 3 printed pages. After much badgering by my PHP they grudgingly sent my med records to my referring physician. I have written AEC management and K******* without response. I am preparing a complaint with the AZ state health department and the federal HIPPA board. These greedy, exploitative, and indifferent postures by a health provider are concerning to say the least. I am rejecting this response because it is personally offensive and in some parts, off topic.
I asked to be called Doctor because I am in fact an academic doctor who should be addressed as Doctor or Professor. I think this is besides the point of the complaint.
I never threatened to sue them. I did state that refusal to let a patient see their med records is ACTIONABLE, which it is. Her use of quotes is doubly false.
Their insistence on having dismissed me as a patient is almost funny as I was asking for my records because I WAS dismissing them. This is like claiming to fire someone who has already quit.
In all this is a hysterical and inaccurate response. Their belligerence shines throughout and I am fortunate to be rid of this clinic.
