Neglected to tell me the design and materials used to replace our pool deck does not keep deck cool or non slippery. The deck is now so hot it is like walking on asphalt in the June sun. Also, if you step into the pool when you get out, it has an oily surface and it is dangerously slippery. The company wants to charge me $8200 to replace the deck and they could not start until August. I have grandchildren who want to use the pool, but as with most kids, they want to run around the pool chasing each other. This is a major burn and fall risk. The owner stated he tried to deter me from the deck I chose with pricing. How about using words or including the information with the initial quote and contract.

Pool Deck Flagstone Texture completed 09/15/2021 EMAIL from ******************* dated Thursday January 20th 2022 (I have the copy)"How much would it be to redo our pool deck and patio using lace finish? I really hate what we had done. Color doesn't go with our house and wall."Customer chose the Flagstone Finish Pattern and color pattern. We informed her this choice would required re-sealing every ***** months and would be a re-occuring cost to her, she admitted in her complaint that we tried to dissuade her for her Flagstone choice which we did, advising her to choose the lace pattern texture. We have never had a complaint about temp or slipping issues. To redo her deck would be taking all the Flagstone texture off and cleaning and prepping surface to install new lace pattern and sealcoat. There is no surface in ******* in the summer that is going to be cooler when its over 100 degrees air temp.Customer Response

They did not communicate in person or over the phone. I.never had these problems with my pool deck the previous I 23 years. By giviing me a higher price for flagstone do not disclose the flagstone pattern would be blazing hot and slippery. The owner showed up on job site for 5 min and spoke with only his worker. For $23,000 it seems he should have given more attention to the project but I guess his ethics dont go that far. He had 4 months from quote acceptance to start of job to tell me he would be using a crappy product. He said. He would give me his very best. Price to redo the deck, but his new. The previous deck material was Kool Deck which is asbestos fibers which helped to deflect heat and has not been in use for years. The price to completely redo her deck has gone up considerably due to the current inflation, product cost, gas and labor have all increased unfortunately. Our Renovation Supervisor onsite has over 20 years experience with our company. The Flagstone Acrylic Pattern Deck she chose has been used by our company for almost 20 years with no complaints. I do not know of any coatings that are not hot when exposed to the sun in the heat of the summer. Water shoes or some other foot protection might be helpful. Customer was very pleased after the project was completed.Now she stated the color does not match her house and wall color and she feels we are responsible for her decision.Customer Response

I talked to the owner within the last two weeks and told him I was not concerned with the color. I was concerned with the deck because of the heat and it was slippery. I have recently fallen and broken my hip, shoulder and arm and needed to use the pool for my physical therapy. With the deck being slippery, I couldnt safely exit the pool. My fear was falling. I have water shoes and they dont help the heat or traction. The owner told me in our last conversation, they priced the flagstone higher so I wouldnt select it. All they had to do was tell me it wasnt guaranteed against heat or slip factor. As for the coating he keeps talking about, it has no bearing in this matter. Its only been 10 months since he applied it. He is just refusing to acknowledge he didnt give complete information On the product he used.
