Summer of '22 my daughter attended summer camp at the **********************, on the last day, the educators gave her an activity to do that required peanut butter spread, she is extremely allergic to peanuts and had an allergic reaction. At the time she was 4 years old and didn't have an understanding of her allergens to express her concern about the activity. As a result she suffered from swollen eyes and red inflamed skin rashes. She suffered for 3 hours at the camp and no staff member contacted me to bring medication. Upon pick up, an educator rushes out and tells me "**** was emotional all day" the educator did not have the intelligence to see that something was wrong. I rushed her home to get medication, it took her 3 days to recover from her injuries. This situation could have been avoided, her allergen information was on file and the educator admitted it in a brightwheel conversation. The *** did not reach out to us with a formal apology or even bother to ask if my daughter was ****. I blame *************************** for her incompetence and lack of leadership and I believe her license should be revoked.Update: Till this day, no upper management has called with a formal apology, the only apology we received was in an email or a social media post, which we never accepted. The *** claimed that they have terminated the educator, but she still remains on the website and their marketing materials. I have also posted several reviews based on our experience on various social media platforms and they have removed them and blocked us to cover up their negligence.

      Shine Preschool Center Response

      03/27/2023

Hello ***********************,We're very sorry of their overall experience in Summer 2022. We have documented evidence supporting our attempt to contact them the next day after the incident and multiple attempts as recent as March 2023.. For clarity sake, this is not a part of the Shine Preschool Center program but with the Summer **** by Shine Preschool program. Details: The parent added that the student was allergic to legumes but not peanut butter. There was zero documentation showing that Mr. **** put peanut butter as an allergen for the student. The Summer **** volunteer (and other volunteers interviewed during the investigation process) confirmed that the student did not consume the substance (peanut butter) but was exposed to it. We were surprised at the photos that were sent to us as this was not sent to us until the next year after the incident. We were very apologetic and the Summer **** volunteer's assigned was ended after. (Details of the investigation can be requested with our *************** team)After not hearing from Mr. **** until the following year, we believed we had resolved the issue. In 2023, Mr. **** has resurfaced their discontent on this situation and have sent threatening and harassing emails that our legal team is actively resolving. Local authorities have been notified as well. We have made numerous attempts at contacting Mr. **** and they have been unresponsive. It's clear that he has a dangerous agenda without being open to a resolution. We deeply apologize for this experience and we wish them nothing but the best.

I have a screen shot of the emails with photos before and after which was sent immediately after the incident. I asked for proof of upper management reaching out to us till this day I have no proof from you. In a yelp review you told me to reach out, I sent you an email for safety update because of my concerns for the children proof of the educator's termination Instead you responded with "our legal team has been notified" I only sent 2 emails, none of which had any life threatening intentions or harrasment. I have screen shots of it all. I have proof of your negligence and lies. As a parent, I have the right to speak about my experience, I am exercising the consumer review fairness act, tell them why you keep deleting the reviews? what are you hiding? it's illegal to delete honest reviews with evidence. Also your claiming I am dangerous without proof to sway the consumer is character defamation based on notes from my legal team. If you had reached out to my family immediately after this situation, we would not be here, it shows you what type of CEO you are, you couldn't even send an email, most ceo would call or send out a formal letter to at least pretend to show concern for someone's child.

I forgot to add this: let me educate you on peanuts. "Peanuts, also known as ground nuts, are a legume rather than a tree nut" fact check that, I thought you guys are experienced educators? Also, out of all the options to use, why use peanuts? it's the most famous allergen in *****************. I have proof of all your lies, I have to speak on my experience to protect the children. Every time you guys delete my reviews, I will write another one. If you want to end this all you have to do is show me the safety updates you apparently implemented and proof that the educator you terminated is really gone. I asked for those two things and I was met threat, something is not right with these people.

Update: 5/31/2023, Rayleen Tafoya, Chief Executive Officer at Shine Preschool Center sent me a response letter in regards to a serious peanut allergy incident that happened at their summer camp located at the United Methodist Church with my daughter (story of incident below). Not a formal apology to my family but banning me from their locations. Also, she responded to my report with the better business bureau, here are my responses. Rayleen Tafoya: In documentation submitted prior to camp - "the parent added that the student was allergic to legumes but not peanut butter. There was zero documentation showing that Mr. Thai put peanut butter as an allergen for the student." Parent: Peanut is a legume, as experienced educators you would think they would know that or have the intelligence to look it up. Also out of all the things to use for an activity, why use peanut butter? Rayleen Tafoya:The Summer Camp volunteer (and other volunteers interviewed during the investigation process) confirmed that the student did not consume the substance (peanut butter) but was exposed to it. Volunteers gave her peanut butter to spread on a pine cone to make a bird feeder. Parent: there are thousands of reported fatal incidents with adults and children not by consumption but by being in the same room with peanuts which can cause severe allergic reactions for them. They let her spread peanut butter on a pine cone with her fingers, I am pretty sure she licked some of it. Rayleen Tafoya:We were surprised at the photos that were sent to us as this was not sent to us until the next year after the incident. We were very apologetic and the Summer Camp volunteers assigned ended after. Parent: We have a screen shot of the emails with before and after photos on school location, including photos that were given to us by their staff through their bright wheel app. The email was sent to them immediately after the incident. We have screen shots of all communication, we asked for their proof but were met with legal responses. She mentioned summer camp volunteers being let go over the incident, but why does that matter? they're just volunteers, who put them in charge? For those of you catching up. my daughter attended their camp and prior to going we submitted allergen information they still exposed my daughter to peanuts during an activity causing her to suffer for 3+ hours they kept her there and did not call me, when I picked her up her eyes were swollen almost shut, and her skin was red and patchy. Photos are in this review. We also have videos of her reaction.
