My vehicle was running poorly, misfiring, and upon inspection at my house I saw that there was evidence of rodents damage. I filed a claim with AAA and was directed to BVAC for an estimate to determine the extent of the damage and if the misfire code was related to the rodent damage. I at no time authorized any repairs, and was explicit that I needed a full scope of the damage caused by the rodents and if the rodent damage was responsible for the misfire. They wrote up an estimate for visible damage to an air censor. but did not address the misfire, what was causing it, and if it was caused by rodents. I made them aware of my concern the misfire may be caused by damage to the wiring harness, however I am a ****** and am not very familiar with automotive repair. Instead of properly diagnosing the error code and determining why the vehicle misfired and its relatedness, they provided an estimate for the removal and reinstall of the uppermanifold fThey sent the one and only correspondence in the form of a text, requesting permission to remove the manifold cover. ****'s text (which i still have) read HI, PER OUR PHONE CONVERSATION PLEASE RESPOND WITH APPROVAL IN THE AMOUNT OF $250 DEDUCTIBLE AND APPOVAL TO REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD TO INSPECT RODENT DAMAGE. I responded: Yes please proceed as discussed with the removal to determine the extent of the rodent damage and if it is the cause or related to the engine trouble. Have a good day. They then proceeded to remove the upper manifold, and then called me and said, they had removed the manifold and after doing so, checked compression and determined that there was no compression on cylinder 1. I asked why instead of properly diagnosing the vehicle and determining that the reason for the error code and misfire was no compression on culinder one, why would they request my permission to remove the upper manifold. I advised i simply had speculated what the issue was, that I was not a mechanic and they should have properly diagnosed the vehicle before removing the upper manifold cover. If they had properly diagnosed the reason for the misfire, and advised me that there was no compression on cylinder 1, there would have been no need to remove the upper manifold cover. instead the performed unnecessary work. When this occurred, I advised them that I would not pay them even for the removal of the manifold as they should have properly diagnosed the vehicle so I could make a decision as to what i wanted to do with the money from the claim. They then advised they had already replaced the air flow censor, and that they wanted the money for the complete removal and reinstall off the upper manifold. I NEVER AGREED TO ANY OF IT. I advised them repeatedly through the whole process i needed an estimate and ***** then make a determination as to how to proceed. They have held my vehicle hostage since this has occurred. I wrote the owner a letter outlining my complaint and recieved no response. I have received absolutely NOTHING from the owner. He has not sent me a bill, he has not sent me an estiamte, he has not told me how much he expects, he has not filed any lein paperwork, he has not taken due care to protect my vehicle and he is hodling my vehicle in an attempt to extort money from me. I NEVER TOLD THEM TO DO ANY REPAIRS. if they had properly diagnosed the misfire instead of doing unnecessary work and then diagnosing it, then it never would have been needed. They also never provided photos of the manifold cover being removed, they have not provided me with 1 single written document. I have the air flow sensor estimate and then the manifold removal./reinstall estimate both provided to my by AAA and that is all. They are holding my car hostage and attempting to extort money from me I elected not to have the repairs done, and the shop arbitrarily has stated I owe them money.
