I was involved in a car crash that occurred in ***********************. My car was totaled and inoperable and I was taken immediately to the base hospital via ambulance after the crash. ******** called the nearest towing service, S&R Towing, *********, to tow my car to their lot without any notice to me. A few days after the crash, I went to the company to get my personal belongings out of my car and to see if I could just hand over my car to the company and not deal with it anymore (my insurance doesn't cover towing/collision). The company told me that it would be over six hundred dollars just to leave my car there (plus daily fees). Since my license and registration are out of state (I'm stationed in ********** on orders), I don't even have a feasible method to get my title mailed here on time. Since my car was towed without any clearly posted warning nor did I request that specific company to tow it (I would've called AAA and taken it anywhere else if I was given the chance), it seems unfair that I have to pay such a price to leave my car with the company that's going to auction is off anyways even if I never reached out to them.Initial Complaint

On 7/11/22, I called AAA for battery service. They sub hired S&R Towing who sent a tech who jump started my battery incorrectly causing extensive electrical damage to my car. While I was waiting for the tech to give me the signal to start the engine, while he kept switching the cables around (long cables that go battery to battery) I heard a noise and saw sparks coming out of my engine. It took $1790.35, 3 months without a car, 6 visits to mechanics ********* Navarros Auto Repair, Used Car Nation and finally Delta) to repair my car. My car is a **** ******* XG350 with only 127k miles. **** though is an older car, we have kept it in pristine condition. My dad bought it brand new from *******, he drove it very little and it was his hobby. A week before he passed away he gave it to **** have an emotional attachment and the car drives better than newer cars. It was fine until the tech caused the short. He didnt even accept a tip and left apologizing. We replaced the battery and the car worked except some electrical components. Our mechanic replaced the alternator but told us to take it to the dealer because hit could have a shorted computer. At first, S&R Towing, **** the manager called and offered to make things right. He even sent a tow truck on 8/11 to take my car to his mechanic and sent me a Claim form which I filled out, notarized and delivered on 8/18 to *******. After 4 days they said they were towing my car to ******* and I had to pay for the diagnostic. After this they stopped answering my calls so I turned to AAA for help since I hired them not the towing company. They reopened my claim ***** with ****** as case manager. The diagnostic from the dealer pointed to the Junction Fuse Box. AAA turned down the claim because they request pictures but this is impossible when the damage is internal. It took replacing the alternator, the Fuse Box and 2 relays to fix my car. ************** found the 2 shorted relays which were burning fuses when engine started.Initial Complaint

There is no way for my son, Justice *****, who is in COVID quarantine to get his automobile back before it goes to auction. He is presently in custody at the San Diego County Central Jail. He has been there since December 26, 2021. Nobody, not even attorneys or medical professionals are presently allowed to visit clients at the jail because of this Omicron Variant. We've tried time and time again to contact that towing company from their website and on the phone. They have not responded at all. All of my son's belongings are in the car as well as cash (which I doubt is still in there). The police confiscated the car for investigation but found absolutely nothing in it outside of clothing, shoes, cash, jewelry box of watches, heirloom cufflinks, etc. The notice they sent to Justice ***** only lists the car as going up for auction and that shouldn't happen either. There should be some type of adjustment for this odd time of COVID. My son's car is a 2006 ****** Prius. License Number is ******* and the *** is *****************.Initial Complaint

I'm an elderly, disabled person who has been defrauded by S and R towing. I contacted the branch in ******** ** because I needed a piece of equipment moved from ******** which is only 5 minutes from their location to my property which is approximately 1 hour away. When I spoke to the lady at the ******** office, she indicated it would take approximately 2.5 to 3 hours to complete the transfer and the total charge would be no more than $450.The day of the move, they called and told me they would be an hour late. When the truck finally arrived, the driver tried to charge me an excess hour of $150. I asked how that could be and he indicated the truck at the ******** office was down and he had to come from ********* ** which is an hour away from ******** and and hour away from my property. I objected because I contracted the move from the ******** office which was close to the equipment location and if they indicated to me when the called that day to tell me they would be late that they were coming from *********, I would have cancelled. However, they hid that information from me. After explaining the situation to the driver, he agreed and said he would only charge the $450 that I was quoted. That evening, I found they charged my card the inflated amount. I called the next day and was told only the owner could assist. I left 3 messages for him and he never responded. So, my credit card was overcharged and this is fraudulent. Charges are to be clearly defined and agreed to before those fees can be charged. Furthermore, it is not my responsibility to pay extra because the truck at the ******** office was not available. That is the responsibility of the tow company. They also, legally were required to inform me if there would be additional charges. From reading some reviews, I find this predatory fraud seems to be the norm for this company and apparently taking advantage of the elderly and handicapped is perfectly acceptable to them.Business response

This customer had a ****** ******** Tractor towed. the rate for this is ****** hr Portal to Portal. The equipment to tow this size of tractor is Located at the main office in *********, **. The customer told our calltaker the tractor was located 5 minutes away from our ******** office. This was 16 miles from our ******** office at ****************************************************************************** . This was then taken to ********************************************************************************* 60 miles away. Total time on this call is **** hours. The customer was discounted and only charged for **** hours.
It doesn't matter where the truck is coming from on this tow because of the distance of the tow. If the truck came out of ******** it would still have to return back to ******** on a portal to portal rate. Also keep in mind that trucks have to go thru the *** scalehouse which takes extra time.
If this was a car being towed that distance, the customer would of been charged ************ hookup and **** mile. it was a 60 mile tow.
This customer has already tried to charge back his credit card and was denied. If you would like more proof, I can gladly send the invoice with pictures of the equipment and the tractor that we towed. We document everything.
Thank you
