My husband and I contacted Irish Iron for an estimate. Terrible experience from the start. I was belittled by the owner ***********************. I check Yelp reviews and saw that this is nothing new for him. He is also preforming work under a suspended contractors license. Buyers beware! I will never do business with this company again.Business response

I said I would be happy to take care of the scratches. As for my additude all I can say is moving forward I will record each conversation so I can prove I am indeed being respectful. As for the contractors board and my license I have no control over them taking so long to confirm my insurance is valid. It was sent to them but there system takes a while to update that info. This happens every single year and it has nothing to do with me not doing anything wrong. They just do not have a very good system. As for yelp or anything else we do a very very large volume of work as in 100 jobs at a time for over 20 years. So yes from time to time we run into very difficult customers. Also Yelp does not do anything to confirm if something is true or false or anything like that. They will allow anyone to just say what they want. moving forward just tell me what you expect from me and I will tell you what I am willing to do or not do. Thank you.Initial Complaint

On November 25, 2021, I contracted with Irish Iron for the installation of an iron handrail and guardrail in my house. On March 2, 2022, it was instantly clear that the railing delivered and installed was unsafe because it wobbled substantially. I immediately communicated my concerns to *********************** but he dismissed them and demanded the remaining payment, totaling $6,200. In fact, his response was "I've done rails for over 30 years and when a straight rail is nearly 20 ft long of course it is going to move." A building inspector confirmed the installation was not up to code because the design could not resist a concentrated load of 200 pounds. In response, ************ proposed designs that constituted material changes from what I had contracted for. ************ now claims the issue is that the framing in the house does not have the requisite structural integrity, but multiple contractors have confirmed the requisite framing members are in place. This issue is not the installation, it is the design. Overall, I was disturbed that if ************ believed the necessary framing members were not present that he would install something that he did not believe was safe anyways and fail to communicate that information. This project was something I had greatly looked forward to, but it has become a stressor in my life. ************ has repeatedly yelled and screamed at me when I have tried to resolve this issue to the point where I had to resort to communicating with him only through email. However, he continued to badger me to the point that I had to resort to having third parties communicate with him. I do not believe a customer should ever be treated this way. ************ has had the installation in his possession for the past several months but refuses to give me a refund. I should not be required to purchase a liability or accept a product that is a material change from what I contracted for. Though ************ has caused me significant distress, I am only asking for a refund ($6,200).Business response

Following the installation of the contracted and approved rails, it was brought to the attention of Irish Iron that the railings had some movement. After examination, it was deemed that the support within the deck was structurally subpar for the iron installation. Irish Iron was contacted by ************************* attorney, *****************************, regarding the installation. In the email sent by ******************** he states " the installation of the original railing was done improperly as the posts for the railing were only bolted to the subfloor which lacks the requisite structural integrity." It was brought to ************************ attention that the signed contract requires that backing for installation was the responsibility of the homeowner. It is impossible for a contractor to know what backing is in place under a deck (or behinds walls in the case of installing railings that bolt to the wall), this is why the contractor states that the customer is responsible for backing.
As a resolution to ************************ email, Irish Iron has offered to install the iron railing again, after the integrity of the flooring is structurally sound and powdercoat the iron a different color than contracted per ************************* request.
As the problem with the movement of the iron rails is directly related to the structural integrity of the deck, evidenced by ************************ email, Irish Iron is refusing the customers full refund. To resolve the issue, Irish Iron would be willing to refund $2,200, as a one time offer, to resolve the issue in full for material and labor associated with the contract. If a resolution is not made here, Irish Iron rescinds the offer of the $2,200 refund.
