I purchased an engine on 9/1/23 from the engine forge. I returned my core 3/4/24. I am supposed to receive a refund for my core engine in 6 to 8 weeks after the return. I have contacted them so many times without a response back. I would like a refund for my core return. I am no longer receiving any responses back from the company. It's unacceptable for them not to even respond. Next steps are legal action.

The order referenced in this complaint is under an entirely different name.  We do not have a contract with Mr ****** nor is he listed on any order with our company.

Regarding the order referenced in this complaint, the customer's core return is going through the normal inspection process and his refund will be issued once complete.  We are communicating with that customer through our online customer information platform.

Our friendly staff is always available for you, and our warranty is the best in
the business!  Let us know if we can help you with your engine needs.

I purchased a 1997 ****** Landcruiser engine Core from the Engine Forge Company in **********, **********. I followed all of the procedures as outlined by the Company on the installation and verified this with the certified mechanic who installed the core. After spending ~ $5K on on the rebuilt engine and an additional $2,500 on the installation the engine ran for approximately 50 miles before it developed a loud pinging noise. I paid another $600 to ship the engine back to the Engine Forge only to fine out that the invalidated the warranty as they said the engine had overheated. I've attached pictures of the heat tabs that have NOT been melted due to overheating but company will not honor its warranty. I'm very frustrated and do not want this to happen to anyone else. I'm at a loss as to figure out how to hold the company responsible. Thank you for your assistance.

    Business Response

    Date: 06/04/2024

We make every attempt to warn our customer about the dangers of overheating.  We provide detailed instruction multiple places through the Purchase Agreement, which every customer must sign before we fulfill an order.  Additionally we provide a copy of the installation & break in instructions shipped with every engine.  Regrettably we can't provide a warranty on an engine that has overheated.

The product that we sold this customer was exposed to either installation error or operator negligence and has suffered permanent damage due to overheating as indicated by the heat tabs on the engine.

Overheating is a preventable problem. Overheating doesnt happen immediately. It takes time for an engine to increase from 185F to 280F.  There is ample opportunity to observe the warning system in the car and shut the engine down before permanent damage occurs, and before the heat tabs melt.

We offered to provide a discount on a rebuild however this customer didn't choose to take advantage of that.  Should he change his mind, we would be happy to assist.

We paid for a new remanufactured engine. Installed by a trained and certified Audi mechanic. Low oil pressure at idle and all the ENGINE FORGE does is blame the installer and hangs up the phone on us. Very unprofessional.

    Business Response

    Date: 06/07/2024

We provide high quality remanufactured engines at an affordable price. All our engines go through a stringent quality control and inspection process before being shipped to our customers. Every customer is required to sign a Purchase Agreement before we fill any order. The terms of this PA clearly define the warranty claim process which includes the submission of certain documentation to verify the condition of the engine. This is a measure we take to save the customer the time and money of removing and shipping an engine when there are often ways we can help remotely through troubleshooting techniques or parts.

This customer contacted us on February 9, 2024 to ask a question about low oil pressure reading on an Audi engine. Because this is a common issue on these engines we have collected some helpful information which we passed along to this customer. We never require that a customer follow any procedures but some customers find them to be a helpful and time saving options. Our warranty states that any non-functional engine can be returned to us at any time for repair/replacement at our expense (assuming a defect in workmanship or materials).

Per the terms of the signed Purchase Agreement the warranty prerequisites must be submitted with a warranty claim. We asked this customer to submit his warranty prerequisites but his response was to call us and tell us we didn't know what we were talking about.  The customer then sent an email threatening to dispute his bill unless we talked with knowledge.  We asked the customer three more times to submit his warranty prerequisites so we could move forward with his warranty claim. Unfortunately this customer was unwilling to submit any documentation or following the agreed upon warranty claim process.

We value our customers and would like to help however our hands are tied when a customer won't follow the basic terms of the contract we have with them.

Paid for a motor and was told of get a refund on my old motor. I sent the motor in and was told 6 to 15 business days for a refund. 4 months have passed and they sent me a flimsy excuse of a receipt saying they took the whole refund.

    Business Response

    Hi future customer!

We are sometimes asked, "Why is my core deposit less than expected?!"

We're disappointed too. Locating and obtaining replacements is time consuming, expensive, and sometimes not possible. We always lose money on unusable or partially usable cores due to the enormous expense to ship them from customers around the country back to our facility. This is why we ask for the condition of your core during the sales call - it helps us decide whether your core is a good investment.

Every customer is required to sign a purchase agreement (contract) before we fulfill their order.  The terms and conditions of the PA thoroughly describe how we process engine cores.

This information is presented to every customer four times:
It is included in the terms and conditions within your signed Purchase Agreement
It is included in your purchase packet (printed) or DocuSign envelope (emailed).
It is included in the Packing Sleeve on every engine.
It is included in the Core Refund Letter that we mail, along with a copy of the Inspection Report.

Future customers don't let this happen to you; make sure you accurately disclose the condition of your core during the ordering  process.

    God bless and be safe!

THEY REBUILT AN ENGINE, AND IT HAS A SERIOUS ISSUE. THE CUSTOMER ALREADY PAID FOR THE ********************** REBUILD, AND IS NOW THREATENING LEGAL ACTION AGAINST OUR BUSINESS.

    Business Response

    Hi future customer!

Every customer is required to sign a purchase agreement (contract) before we fulfill their order. This PA provides remedies for warranty related issues. We are ready and willing to work with this customer through the warranty claim process. At this time the customer has not provided any of the contractually agreed upon warranty documentation.  We welcome the customer to participate in the warranty claim process rather than slander us on the BBB website.

We sell thousands of engines every year, with only a small handful of customers like this. However, when a BBB complaint goes unresolved, even though the customer is making unreasonable demands, our rating is penalized.

We don't like the BBB because they do nothing to ensure that customers are honest and their demands are reasonable.

GOD BLESS AND BE SAFE OUT THERE!

This company took our money for an engine then did not give us back the core money. Then their engine failed due to builders error, they installed the timing tensioners backwards! The timing guides broke and and fell into the lower pan! They do not know what they are doing! They are running a scam!

    Business Response

    Date: 11/09/2023

    Hi future customer!

Dont let this happen to you. Every customer is required to sign a
purchase agreement (contract) before we fulfill their order. The
warranty specifically excludes coverage for engines initially filled with
synthetic oil. Because every customer is made aware of the terms
and conditions for oil requirements, we find no reason why a customer
would intentionally void their warranty by using synthetic oil.
We dont know why they did this, customer who dont agree with these
terms and conditions shouldn't buy a product from us.

The customer has made threats of violence to our business and our families and is now attempting to slander us because of their mistakes. We have a great track record in practice. We sell thousands of engines every year, with only a small handful of customers like this. However, when a BBB complaint goes unresolved, even though the customer is making unreasonable demands, our rating is penalized.

The BBB does nothing to ensure that customers are honest and their demands are reasonable.

I am rejecting this response because: The Engine Forge is Lying.  We did not use synthetic oil to break in the engine!  Our invoice CLEARLY states ***************** NON synthetic break in oil.  ************ has a track record of lying and never honoring their warranty!  They stole my money when they took my core and gave me NOTHING in return.  Then they build an engine with the tensioners BACKWARDS and they claim its an oil problem?? Its a wonder why they keep changing their name!  AAA Engines, US Engines, and Now The Engine forge.

    Sincerely,

We provide high quality remanufactured engines at an affordable price. All our engines go through a stringent quality control and inspection process before being shipped to our customers. To ensure customer satisfaction, every customer is required to sign a Purchase Agreement before we fill any order.

The terms of the PA clearly define the installation and break in instructions. Multiple times throughout the PA and Installation Instructions we make customers aware that only NON synthetic oil must be used during the installation & break in period. Synthetic and Synthetic Blend oils can cause damage to newly remanufactured engines. We don't know why this customer chose to use oil that would void their warranty, but they did.

This customer felt the warranty should not be void because he thought his issue is not directly related to oil; we do not offer a "Partial Warranty" on any of our products. If a customer voided their warranty by initially filling their engine with synthetic oil, we now know that the installer didn't follow our installation instructions for this and perhaps additional procedures.

Hours, days, weeks or months later, the timing chain may break. Did the installer also ignore the required installation procedures for verifying and setting the timing components?
Even though the improper use of synthetic oil and a broken timing chain don't appear to be related, we can't and don't resolve just one of those two problems and risk putting that partially damaged engine back into service. We don't encourage, support or participate in any approach that involves an "inevitable failure" in a passenger car.

We don't repair any engines. Every engine that we produce, whether it came to us as a core or as a warranty, is processed and remanufactured exactly the same way. We don't pay for customer's mistakes: in this case we wouldn't want to get stuck paying to re-machine damaged components and obtaining new parts for an engine that was errantly exposed to synthetic oil through no fault of our own. This is how we keep our costs down for other customers!

I received an engine for my **** ****** 720 pickup truck. When I received the motor it looked to be good and I started building it. Just to give you a little background on myself, I have been in the automotive collision industry and Automotive industry in general for over 25 years professionally. I have worked for many dealerships and private shops. I have been a mechanic and I've also been a body man and a painter. I know all aspects of Automotive Repair. That being said let me continue with my complaint. Starting to build the block I noticed that they left a broken pilot bearing in the back of the crankshaft. That got me to looking around other places on the engine and sure enough there was a broken bolt left in the block of the water pump housing. It took me around 4:00 to 4 and 1/2 hours to drill it out and retap it so that I could continue building it. I have complained to the company several times about this and their reply is to send pictures of the oil filter and oil and installation so that they can make sure it's under warranty. It's a ridiculous considering the engine has not had oil in it the engine has not had an oil filter put on it the engine has not been installed. I had to buy extra tools just to pull the pilot bearing that I will never use again. They're lucky that I have great knowledge of Automotive experience or this block would have been unusable to the average person. Now they are replying that if an unauthorized repair was made it voids warranty. So the very fact that I let them know their workmanship is horrible and I have a complaint it's going to be the very reason they don't warranty my motor. I'm sick of their stupid answers about oil and oil filters. I told them I would just complain into Better Business Bureau like everyone else seems to have had. I wish I would have never never never never never never never done business with this company. Their workmanship is horrible and that's coming from an ASC Certified mechanic; me!

This customer contacted us on September 7, 2023 suggesting he had an issue with a bolt so we asked the customer to supply the contractually agreed upon warranty documents. This customer refused to supply the documentation, stating the documents had nothing to do with his issue. We have no way of knowing what the issue is or what may have led to the issue if we are not allowed to take part in a review of the engine.

When we asked the customer to follow the warranty process in his signed Purchase Agreement, he threatened to leave us a bad review. Unfortunately this customer was never willing to submit any photos or documentation or following the agreed upon warranty claim process.

We value our customers and would like to help however our hands are tied when a customer won't follow the basic terms of the contract we have with them.

Every customer is required to sign a purchase agreement (contract) before we fulfill their order. That purchase agreement provides remedies for our customers should there be issues with the product. We're sorry to hear that this customer had a problem with this ********************.  If we had been given the opportunity to help we have been glad to, we were never notified of any issue until receiving this BBB complaint.  We wish that they would have given us the opportunity to help with a resolution before electing to have the problem resolved without our assistance and at their own expense! Customers - don't let this happen to you! We always honor the warranty!

The customers core return is going through the normal inspection process and his refund will be issued once complete.  We are sorry that this customer is unhappy with the agreed upon process for this deposit.

Our friendly staff is always available for you, and our warranty is the best in the business! Thousands and thousands of satisfied customers over the last 20 years can't be wrong!

This business is somehow associated with AAA Engines USA. AAA Engines USA business masquerades as The Engine Forge (dba) just so you are all aware. I was scammed out of my ***** core fee on a ***** **** *** engine that I purchased. They shipped the remanufactured engine out ok in the beginning. BUT, they have never refunded my ***** core fee. I returned the core over 5 months ago. I've been trying to get my core fee returned for over 5 months and they keep giving me the run around or outright ignoring me. You can't get anyone on the phone. The sales department will hang up on you if you call about this big problem.

They are blaming the problem and voiding the warranty because the engine was initially filled with synthetic oil. The reference to break in using a conventional oil is directly related to the piston rings and cylinder walls, not oil pressure. It is widely known that conventional oil is not used in modern day engines because of the effect they have on a mission related parts. This Remanufactured engine has a lack of oil pressure which would not have anything to do with the type of oil. -my core was sent back and they deducted **** for a "cam bridge eroded" -The components of the core we're all good and I am pretty sure they have already sold. I have to pay to fix this one.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/10/17) */ Hi Future Customers! Please don't let this happen to you. Every customer is eligible for our ZERO COST warranty program. We will repair, replace, and pay for round trip shipping whenever one of our engines has a defect in materials or workmanship. The ZERO COST warranty is found in the purchase agreement that every customers is required to sign. It is our contractual (legal) obligation to provide this to you. We stand behind our engines. To get started with a warranty claim we require every customer to provide a few receipts and photos of the engine so that we have the engine documented before it gets shipped back to our facility. In many cases, we find something simple that can be adjusted, replaced or repaired locally. Sometimes, its not even a component that we sold or provided! This saves everyone time and money, so that a customer can get their project back on the road quickly. In a few cases, we find that a customer or their mechanic failed to follow our installation instructions. If nothing is damaged, we simply ask the customer to repeat some of the installation procedures. If we can see the engine is damaged, it may be due to installation error, operator negligence, or a defect in our materials or workmanship. We make the best assessment that we can from where we are - sometimes we can't know the entire story unless the engine has been returned to us for a first-hand inspection and diagnosis. In this case, we ask the customer to allow the engine to be shipped back to our facility, and we ask the customer to place a fully refundable shipping deposit with us (to cover freight penalties that are out of our control, such as forgetting to drain the oil, or not being present for the pickup driver). There are some customers who refuse the ZERO COST warranty program. Customers like this typically demand full refunds on engines that have been installed and used. They demand refunds without giving us an opportunity to inspect or see the problem. This usually means that the customer is trying to make us pay for their mistakes. We wouldn't have a sustainable business with a quality product at a low price if we had to pay for everyone's mistakes. When we decline to offer full refunds to customers who won't allow the engine to be shipped back to us for inspection, some customers decide to post a complaint here on the ***. These customers seem to think that the *** is going to force us to grant a refund. This is NEVER true. The *** has no influence on our decisions. We don't respond to threats. We always respond to good people who need help, and we do our best to provide that help. We have a great track record in practice. We sell thousand engines every year, with only a small handful of customers like this. However, when a *** complaint goes unresolved, even though the customer is making unreasonable demands, our rating is penalized. We don't like the *** much, because they do nothing to ensure that customers are honest and their demands are reasonable. GOD BLESS AND BE SAFE OUT THERE! Consumer Response /* (3000, 8, 2022/10/25) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) This resolves nothing. It is pretty simple I Paid you for a remanufactured engine with a two year warranty. I had it professionally installed and immediately it was discovered there is NO OIL PRESSURE. This in NOT installation error or negligence as you state. I immediately requested assistance from your company and you have your standard replies as anyone can see from all the other *** complaints from the numerous company names you have under TPE Concepts, LLC. The general limited warranty or as you call purchase agreement that you require to be signed, initialed and returned before an engine is even put on a pallet to leave your facility has nothing more than the first six pages telling your customer in legal terms how you will find verbiage to deny and NOT stand behind your product. I paid you for a working engine and all I have is about a *** lb. paper weight that is sitting inoperable. When hard-working Americans buy from American manufacturers that won't stand behind their product is why consumers need the support from organizations like ***, consumer affairs, and the FTC to hold companies accountable to do the right thing. I am requesting one last time to be refunded as I not only paid for the professional installation but now I am paying for the repairs that you immediately denied responsibility. Praying that The Engine Forge company will make this right! Business Response /* (4000, 10, 2022/11/01) */ When a customer has voided their warranty, we are sometimes asked, "Why can't I get assistance? This problem has nothing to do with how my warranty got voided!" The reason is because we do not offer a "Partial Warranty" on any of our products. Take for example, a customer that voided their warranty by initially filling their engine with synthetic oil. We now know that the installer didn't follow our installation instructions for this and perhaps additional procedures. These terms and conditions are explicitly defined in the Purchase Agreement and Warrant which every customer is required to sign prior to fulfilling their order. Consumer Response /* (4200, 12, 2022/11/10) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) "When in doubt, seek professional help or consult with your dealership".- (general limited warranty ' purchase agreement) Did it and local dealership plus other certified professional European car mechanics ALL recommended Castrol European oil specifically required for Audi / European engines. A few documents attached. Business Response /* (4000, 16, 2022/12/08) */ Hi Future Customers! From time to time, a customer will order a product incorrectly and refuse to take accountability for their own mistake. Shipping and restocking is expensive. Don't let this happen to you! There are numerous examples where car manufacturers will change an engine in the middle of a chassis production run. These production run changes are NOT always documented accurately or documented at all. This means that VINs are not always accurate. VINs are never to be trusted as the ONLY source of information. To assist with product matching, we ask for as much information as the customer can provide - VIN, casting numbers, photographs, etc. We wouldn't know if the customer is trying to match the engine that shipped in the car as it rolled off the assembly line, if the customer is upgrading the engine in his car to something newer, or if the customer is simply working on a custom project. We wouldn't know if the customer provided us with an incorrect VIN (read it wrong, transposed the number, or obtained the VIN from a door that was not original to the car). We wouldn't know if the customer is working on a "numbers matching" car or not... occasionally the prior owner of the car replaced/upgraded the engine and the customer hadn't done enough homework on their own car to make an accurate match. Ultimately, we document and ship exactly what the customer orders. We thoroughly describe the product that the customer is ordering on the purchase agreement, invoice, and delivery receipt. These documents always include the exact variations and options that the customer specified. Every customer is required to read and sign the purchase agreement/invoice BEFORE we fulfill their order. In other words, the customer has ample opportunity to see mistakes or make adjustments BEFORE the engine is shipped out. Our process of documenting purchase agreements, invoices and delivery receipts keeps both parties honest - we pay if the order is fulfilled inaccurately, and the customer pays if the order was placed inaccurately. We have a great track record in practice. We sell thousand engines every year, with only a small handful of customers like this. However, when a *** complaint goes unresolved, even though the customer is making unreasonable demands, our rating is penalized. We don't like the *** because they do nothing to ensure that customers are honest and their demands are reasonable. GOD BLESS AND BE SAFE OUT THERE! Consumer Response /* (4200, 18, 2023/01/07) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Future customers beware! This is so ************** as now you were trying to blame the VIN number, Assembly line where the car was manufactured, The dealership, the professional mechanics and me the customer that ultimately made the wrong decision purchasing a remanufactured engine from The Engine Forge that bottom line is not operable. NO OIL PRESSURE AND NO COMPRESSION IN CYLINDER 2. **** who you haven't blamed yet requires compatibility checks that the customers, professional installers and even your salesperson verified the exact match. 'Seller assumes all responsibility for this listing". 'We pay if the order is fulfilled inaccurately" - which is what I fully expect a full refund. Ironic that you also state, "we don't like the *** because they do nothing to ensure that customers are honest and their demands are reasonable" but you have elected to use the *** accredited logo on your revised website. All of your future customers need to view the engine forge and *** engine ratings that are "F"!
