Two years ago I ordered a pair of hearing aids from Valley Audiology, located at 1872 **** Valley Blvd. in ************, **. I did this with ********************************************* AuD. At the time I told her that I wanted in-the ear hearing aids as opposed to those that sit behind the ear with feeds that go into each ear. She took down the information and several weeks later I received a pair of in-the-ear hearing aids manufactured by Phonak. I was told that Valley Audiology received a check for $1,400 which I took to be the purchase price. Thus I anticipated having $3,600 left from the original $5,000.It soon became apparent that these aids were of very dubious quality. They amplified everything making them worthless in a social situation. They were not able to selectively amplify speech, tamping down background noise. This was a feature that every one of my previous hearing aids had. And among these was a pair of in-the-ear hearing aids!Last week I brought them into ******************** in the hope that she could adjust them so they, too, would tamp down background noise and selectively amplify speech. I was shocked to learn that this could not be done. I was told that they didn't have or had very poor directional mics. I was also told that the behind-the- ear model, however, would be able to do this.I contend that she should have told me this when I said I wanted in-the-ear aids rather than behind -the-ear. This may have prevented this predicament. I had an excellent pair of Widex hearing aids which I had ordered three years ago. Unfortunately, they were in their carrying case which I must have dropped. In any case, I no longer have them.I will be purchasing another pair from the ****************************. The total cost will be $6,300. I anticipate having some $3,600 available from my Insurance allotment. The remainder I will pay out of pocket.Business response
