We ordered three chords of firewood this year which should be 384 cubic feet but received only 276 cubic feet. I contacted Castillo's Firewood, but of course received no response. They would not even come look at the stacked firewood to view the shortage. It would have been easy to confirm my complaint. Measurements are easy to make. Do not let the way they stack it in their truck fool you to believe that it has to be a full chord that you are looking at. Sometimes they do not quite stack the wood to the top of the wire cage sides of the truck. I suspect that the wire cage sides themselves take up a portion of the eight foot width that one would think they are receiving. It is not possible that I stack firewood 28% better than they do. The pieces of wood are often not 16" long. Many are 12" or less, yet each can take up the same space as a 16" piece. Many are simply big chunks which take up the same space as two or more pieces. Some are simply rotten wood and not worth burning. Irregardless of why the shortages occur, the order was a substantial shortage from what I ordered. I saw one report that most of the wood are split pieces. Absolutely not true. Many, maybe most, are just limb size. Other reports that the wood is dirty are also true, but for me the shortage is the issue. I have ordered from Castillo Firewood for many years. I have always stacked my own firewood. I have always found the shortage to be at least 10% and up to 15%, but this year and at least the previous couple of years the shortage has been ridiculous. It seems to be deliberate. To always be short is deliberate. Just cannot trust people to provide proper or honest service anymore. I originally ordered from Castillo because they simply had a reasonable price. Just cannot get lazy and let poor service slide. Will now have to consider the service and honesty as a significant consideration as well as a quoted price and quantity. Beware of Castillo Firewood!
