On 7/17/21, I signed a 12-month gym contract. The transaction was completed electronically on a small point of sale tablet that I could not read thoroughly at the time, and I was not given a printed copy. I was surprised on 10/18/21 to have an unauthorized charge of $49.99. I initially spoke to Jenn (I believe the owner's wife) by phone who said it was an "Enhancement Fee". I objected to the charge, and she said, "It's in your contract." That little contract I signed on the tablet, of which a copy was never sent to me. She became irate and unhelpful, so I ended the call. I researched the business on Yelp and sent a message, as I did not have an email address or contact for the business. The owner, **** called me. I explained the issue, and he was also rude and abrupt, saying it's in the contract, that he doesn't handle these matters and would have a guy named "*****" contact me. ***** did email me a copy of the contract & the $49.99 Enhancement Fee was not supposed to be charged until the anniversary date in July, 2022. He apologized, promised to reverse the charge, and offered some free personal training sessions. Despite further contacts, six months later, none of that had been done. On 04/14/22, I decided to try again and emailed *****. I proposed that since the end of my contract was approaching, perhaps they could just cancel the last payment due in June, and I would pay ***** and May in advance. This he agreed to, so I went in person to pay in cash, and *** refused to accept it or Venmo, although ***** said I could. The next day I returned with a new debit card and asked it not to be on auto-pay, just to pay the last 2 months. He swiped my card, handed it back to me and said angrily, "that's not how it's done". I objected to what he just did and he got hostile and agitated, saying, "I'm not in the mood for this, and ***** will call you." The interaction was so upsetting I left the gym and now I don't wish to ever go back there.
