Im a new patient as of January and are extremely dissatisfied with Blue Shield. I broke my risk while in another country on June 21st .. I called Blue Shield several times and the doctor ******* see me until the 1st week of July. The doctor referred to a bone specialist and said they would call me right away. The day went by and no one called me , I called the doctors office and they finally gave me the specialist phone number. I called and it turned out they dont have a hand specialist..I called the doctors office again and got referred to a different specialist. Is going to be one month since my injury and barely going to be seeing by the specialist next Monday.Blue Shield Of California Response

Ive had the same medical issue for 2 yrs and because of Blue Shields (and ******) inability to pay what theyre supposed to, not correct their monthly premium billing errors, not honor coverage at **** when they were contracted with them in 2023, and blatantly redacting coverage for a covered health care with Vista Del Mar in 2024, and their service reps repeat the same negative solutions any AI could generate and after hours of my time, and multiple phone calls w/ run around, I had to stop all together. I cant afford credit to drop because of paying HIGH PREMIUMS for INCOMPETENT HEALTH or NON-EXISTANT COVERAGE. Dont waste the little money you have with this health insurance because they either wont pay for, or will gaslight your hard earned money into a bigger debt trying to get solutions. Blue Shield equals mental health issues equals more debt equals more physical stress equals more health insurance needed. The only thing Blue Shield has earned is every single low rating on here. This insurance is a monopoly of your $$$ time and energy. My health is better off trying to figure it out myself.Blue Shield Of California Response

Absolutely terrible insurance company. You will spend countless hours of your life in correspondence with the customer service and appeals team trying to get very basic medical procedures covered, because they don't want to pay claims and their "independent review doctors" always disagree with your doctor's ******* on what is "medically necessary", despite having a copy of your entire medical history. Their claims team is so bad about paying that they automatically mail you paperwork to appeal their decision with the **** of California, because they know they are full of BS and just want that extra two months of not paying your claim, so they can collect interest on the billions they have in the bank, or maybe they'll luck out and you'll just give up trying (more money in their pocket). ****** care in this country is so ridiculously broken.Review from Tram T

This companys service is extremely irresponsible and inhumanity. We had a newborn and advised by Blue Shield, he can stay under mothers policy for the first 30 days without any charges. We called to add him under the plan on 15-April and was confirmed the same info. On 4-May, we got a mail notifying an extra charge to add the baby. Called twice and was told by agent *** that the previous agent mistakenly added him as the dependant instead of newborn which caused the charge. She adjusted it and advised that well need to pay the premium from the 31st day. Were ok with that. On 14-May, we got a bill with the extra charge like nothing ever adjusted. Called again and agent ********* told us to pay the amount to maintain the service. The overcharge will reimburse after the appeal is approved in 30 days. On 31-May, we got a mail notifying that the baby is removed from the plan which we asked to keep and were willing to pay the extra (refer to the conversation with agent *** on 4-May). Called again on 1-Jun, agent **** or **** told us to apply for a new policy online (5-10 days to approve) or submit an appeal (30 days to resolve). Our baby is under treatment and his next check-up is on 10-Jun. If we apply for the new policy, the coverage starts on 1-Jul so it doesnt apply for this check-up. We asked to expedite the appeal and he said no its not emergency unless almost dying. He also said that I had to decide to re-apply or submit appeal now because he has other customers to serve. Are we not their customer? Thats how Blue ********************** treat us after getting a grand a month? Only when our baby is in danger then you agree to expedite the case? Were so patient to wait for a month to have the plan adjusted right while it was the mistake made by the agents. Plus, we made 7 calls in total and spoke with 7 agents. We got different answers for the same request. This business is a scam. They got your money and ran away from liability. Agents are unprofessional and irresponsible.Blue Shield Of California Response

Blue Shield of California utilizes fraudulent business practices to collect premiums without providing care. I would HIGHLY recommend staying far away from this company. As you can see from all the compalints, they are not accredited by the BBB. The reason is they refuse to resolve any conflicts, even when they have created the error/conflict. I will continue to file complaints with **** of ******** Affairs, FTC and DMHC. I have also dissuaded friends, families from using Blue Shield and several brokers from selling policies. A call center continually badgers my wife and i to set up a "wellness check". We both have primary physicians that we are happy with. The callers are rude and intrusive. Good reason to cancel our Blue Shield Advantage plan and go with United if this continues. Horrible. Truly ghastly in an age when seniors are continually barraged with disinformation and scam calls.Blue Shield Of California Response

Should be a negative start...Blue Shield of California is a scam as said below many times. This is ridiculous. Not to mention that i was unaware the insurance companies actually set the rates of what an ambulance can charge, what a doctor can charge, what the cost of a band aid is allowed, they have no idea what somethink cost in California which is very obvious. No wonder there is hardly ambulance services when needed. I have been dealing with an ambulance charge for over 1.5 years now and Blue Shield will not do a thing, it is always stated you/me will have to go to appeals and again try appeals. Its an internal appeal process what do you think theyre going to say LOL. We pay a lot of money for insurance with no service. Writing this for anyone that is looking for insurance try anywhere else, not that any of the others will be any better.Blue Shield Of California Response

Although Ive had great customer service by two Blue ********************** ***** ***** (no last name) and ********************************* Blue Shield shield itself is a sham. I have been treated condescendingly and referred to a grievance person, *******, who was so rude hes a grievance onto hmself. Would give 0 stars if possible as they are unwilling to pay for out of network procedure and claim they get to decide and it doesnt matter if I pay $20k they can say only $1k is applied to my out of pocket so they never pay and this is bronze PPO at $1600 per month and cant change until next year so try united health or Cigna insteadBlue Shield Of California Response
