I was forced to go through Rent Spree to rent a cottage for the duration of a 2-3 month employment contract out of ******** first, everyone on Rent Spree, Furnished Finders, and the cottage owner were very polite and professional. All assured me that while they had others interested in their property, they chose me to rent their property.They proceeded to require access to my entire bank account, as well as other things I considered highly personal, invasive, and unnecessary. I agreed because I really wanted to rent the cottage.I received a copy of my application from Rent Spree, showing a stellar "tenant score" (not to be confused with credit score).For reasons unknown, Rent Spree was taking days to verify my employment. I contacted Rent Spree, the Agent, and the landlord about this (email and text). Not 1 person replied.I followed up with all about the matter, only to finally receive a message that the cottage was rented to someone ******* my opinion, this is unacceptable behavior for so-called professionals at Rent Spree and for a landlord. Why did I pay a $50 fee for this application??? I want my money back!!! Do not trust Rent Spree and its landlords!!!!Business Response

My wife and I both got denied from renting a house because this credit score was over 40 points lower than what we actually have. This is absolutely ridiculous and shouldnt be legal. How is this company even operating???Business Response

RentSpree performed tenant screening for my rental property at ****************************************** via *****************************. RentSpree provided a "verified" applicant whose Employment and Rental History was falsified. References had non working numbers. The company existed, but the tenant never worked there. Additionally, the applicant included fraudulent pay stubs in the application to make it appear as if she qualified for the rental. The breadth of rental court cases against the tenant were also not flagged adequately. As a result, I (as the landlord) am now dealing with destruction of my rental property, failure to pay, and costly court proceedings for eviction.Business Response

I was required to fill out a rental application through Rentspree at cost of ***** which , for an apartment in ***********, only to find out 1. The screen report was basically my credit report which I could get for free it seems like a scam to charge people for something that is free, 2. After paying and submitting the application I was informed the next day that the apartment has already been rented and it was a waste of money. RentSpree did little to ensure that the landlords they work worth actually have open apartments so that applicants are just paying their fee for nothing. 3. After 14 days a person can't even see the report and they have to call the credit company who advises that it's a free report. I am requesting that I be refunded my *****.Business Response

For a fee Rentspree claims to supply you with a credit report and score from transunion and thats not what they supply. These are used by people for rental screening.They send what is called a resident score which is completely different and can be off by 10,20,40 points or more. People think this is a credit report and are losing out on rentals because the score is low and inaccurate.False advertisingBusiness Response

The RentSpree TransUnion "Resident Score" is extremely misleading since it leads owners and property managers to believe it is a credit score when it's not. It's also incorrect as the "reasons" for my lower score actually make no sense. I called to complain and fix what I thought was an error only to find out that this score is made up and is marketing. It falsely hurts my chances as a tenant with a score that is almost 50 points lower than my credit score when I have never had an issue as a renter, never broke a lease or missed a payment and have a near perfect credit score. RentSpree should be forced to show a true credit score alongside their made up score so it paints a truer and fairer picture. I want a refund. I could have just sent a credit score.Business Response

On March 15, 2024 RentSpree charged me $39.99 for a credit check related to an apartment I was applying to. After paying the fee, the credit score RentSpree provided the potential landlord was WRONG -- much lower than my real credit score. Rentspree said my Transunion credit score was 793, when it's actually 835. That is ***42 points lower*** than my actual Transunion score. I am looking at my Transunion credit score history as I type this, and it has not been under 800 in years! Also, my Experian credit score is also 829. I have evidence of both scores, pulled within a week of Rentspree incorrectly saying my score was 793. I have zero late payments in the past ten years. I have zero credit inquires on my report. Less than 1% of my available credit is being used.Related to housing history affecting my score, I've been at the same residence for almost a decade and every rent payment has been made early. I confirmed with my landlord that there have been no surprise negative marks in my history here. There were also no late payments or negative marks against me at my prior residence of five years. Rentspree is also showing only one of my employers, from a place I have not worked in over 25 years! It says my employer was verified in 1998. What even IS this???I told this new landlord that my credit score was 835 and RentSpree made me look like a liar. Thankfully I have evidence that RentSpree's information is FALSE by providing a REAL credit report to the new landlord, not this fake junk report from Rentspree. I want my $39.99 back because this company is charging renters for incorrect information that actually hurts their chances of renting a home.Business Response

The information they provide is inaccurate. Its confusing for an agent to look at the information they receive on a potential client when that info is wrong. It doesn't make sense. I am writing to file a formal complaint against RentSpree regarding a significant credit score discrepancy during my recent application for an apartment through their platform. As part of their application process, RentSpree provided a credit score determination.
