I was diagnosed with Retinopathy in Dec 2017. In March 2018, I enrolled in a 2 year Clinical Trials Program with Retina Consultants of Orange County in ********* for free ocular treatment. I was re-enrolled in the same program for additional 2 years from March 2020 to Feb 2022. At the program's conclusion in Feb 2022, I was encouraged by Retina Consultants of OC to continue treatments due to the measured success of the medication being administered. I would be billed a $45.00 office visit fee for all future appoinments and all office contact was then conducted directly with Retina Consultants of OC representatives. In March of 2023, without my knowledge, Retina Consultants of OC began to bill me in full for my treatments along with the $45.00 office visit fee. I was never told by the office staff about the change in billing status in March of 2023 and Retina Consultants of Orange County neglected to advise me of the billing change during my 2023 office visits. In July 2023, I received a bill for $2071.80 from Retina Consultants of Orange County for services rendered. I approached the office during my next appointment in Aug 2023. I had mentioned that in Feb 2022, when the clinical trials program ended, I was only being charged a $45.00 visit fee and should not be charged for a full visit and the $2071.80 amount due was in error. The response I received was that the clinical trials program ended in February 2023, not February 2022, and I was going to be charged a full visit cost for all future ocular treatments dating back to March 2023 and that I should have been informed of the change in billing, which they acknowledged was a slight error on behalf of the billing department. I implored them to review my billing history and they would see there was a billing error, They refuse to acknowledge any error & are demanding payment in full. I have already paid them $650.00 toward this amount. I believe they have engaged in deceptive billing practices.
