I received a promo email for a wine special. I emailed back to gather more info about purchasing, asking if the special was per bottle or per case. When the he replied days later, he didnt answer my question about the case or bottle and offered me a deeper discount. I let him know I was interested in purchasing 2 cases and asked him how I should proceed with ordering; assuming it would be done over the phone or on an order form. He replied saying that the bottles were on their way to me and sent me the address that he had sent them to, which was an old address. I called him quickly to give him the new address, and asked if he had placed the order, as I hadnt given any permission to use the card that they had on file from a previous visit. I checked my bank account and I had been charged nearly $800. I was frustrated, because I still didnt know how many bottles I would be receiving or how much each case ended up being. I received no price breakdown, no invoice. He did update the shipping address and I told him I would only be able to afford the one case. My bank statement was unclear, and without a receipt, I thought I had been charged twice (once on accident), and that each case (my assumption of 6 bottles) would be $168. He gave no further explanation and simply said that the pending charge (the one I thought was accidental) would fall off, and that he would refund the other case. The package continued on its way to me and my bank account was updated. I noticed that the promised charge fell off, but I still had a $396 charge on my account, I emailed him back again to clarify how it was still so much, asking that if the case was 12 bottles and that the $396 was correct, if I could do a return to sender on the package because that was out of my price range, but I wouldnt have known that since the order was placed and my card was charged without my knowledge. It is illegal through FTC to charge a card on file without authorization, which he did not follow.
