The owner of La Mesa Auto Care, ***** gave me an estimate for repair to have my seatbelt tensioner replaced, he told me that was the reason my "Service Airbag" warning light was on (even though my vehicle has never been involved in collision). I told him my "Service Parking Brake" light had come on a few times intermittently in the last few weeks but had stopped coming on. I wasn't sure if this was yet another electric fault with my ***** Volt, as there has been a history of electrical malfunctions with it during the past almost 5 years I have owned it. I agreed to his estimate to replace the seatbelt tensioner (part and labor) and to check if a fault code was coming up for the parking brake. The estimated total was $375, and I signed this estimate. Later that day I received a call (which went to voicemail since I was on a job) from the woman who works the front desk. Her voicemail said that they found a bunch of other problems with my car and to call her back so we could discuss it. I listened to this voicemail about 4p that day. I immediately called her back and she started to tell me the owner wanted to talk to me about several fault codes that came up when they checked my car. I asked her to please give me a total for labor and the part that had been installed before anything else was discussed. She told me she would call me back shortly with that total. When I hadn't heard from her a half-hour later, I called again, no answer. I got a message from her the following day saying that my car was done and ready to be picked up. At the time I came to pick up & pay, the owner told me my car had needed much more work to get the airbag warning light off, and that installing the new part had triggered a new code in the seatbelt, which they then had to go in and fix, and how much time they had to spend on figuring out the seatbelts, including the ones in the rear by reading the manual. This work was never authorized by me. Total $941.53. Wouldn't release car w/out payment

I wish I had read ******* review before going here as I was ALSO lured in by the cheap smog check coupon. I was also RIPPED OFF. THEY ARE NOT BBB ACCREDITED OR AAA CERTIFIED - RUN!!! After dropping off my car with the "Service Airbag" light on, and then reading online that my car would not pass smog with that light on, I got a surprising call from ***** that the car DID indeed pass smog, but that the only way to get that airbag light off was to replace the seatbelt tensioner on the driver side, which was a $300 part that he would have to order. He said it would take about a week for the part to come in and he would give me a call when it arrived. He also told me they found the horn fuse missing and had replaced that, with labor and part charge. I told him to take it back out because I had previously removed it for a reason. He told me he would remove it, and did. I don't know why I didn't bat an eye when I picked up my car and there was a $150 labor charge to tell me the cause of the airbag light, and for the plugging in, and unplugging, of a fuse, but I paid it.Four weeks later, received a call telling me the part was in. When I dropped off my car I mentioned the check engine light was on. I asked ***** to please plug in the ****2 scanner and tell me the codes. I had no idea what I was in for.Called me the following day, car was ready. I arrived and ***** (with no eye contact) told me the airbag service light was now off, and that some fault codes that came up, that they discovered the window relearn code had come up so they disassembled my passenger door panel(!) to investigate (later I discovered a non-factory window switch now on my door, it doesn't match the others), and that my fasten seat belt light on the driver's side wasn't working so they had fixed it, and that they had installed the horn fuse (against my instruction). Charges were $600 above the estimate!! I was never contacted to authorize any additional work!! STAY AWAY!
