We engaged in KDA for multiple services. The tax strategy planning service and then later 2022 tax filing service. This complaint is about 2022 tax filing service. The strategy service was $8500 which we agreed to, pricing was transparent and upfront. No issues. Then we were told 2022 tax planning services were $750. I was sent a copy of the client engagement contract, which was written in the most deceitful and unclear way. If you are not careful to opt out, you are automatically signed up for a service they don't provide. It is called an audit protection service, they will charge you a fee regardless if you are audited or not, and take advantage of people who do not put their initial to opt out of the service. Then secondly, I read the client engagement contract 10x and was not clear on the wording, so I reached out to clarify. I do not sign up for contracts that leave the "top fee" blank so I asked what is the final fee I can expect. I was told *** not to exceed $1200 and that is in case of extreme cases where they provided significant findings and tax savings. In my case, they did not, and I was provided an invoice of $1387.50. I complained to 4 different people at KDA showing evidence and my dissatisfaction about the shady engagement contract and price I was charged. I showed proof and email dialog that fees would never exceed $1200 for this service, and re-iterated that I am not authorizing any charge above $750 without satisfactory answer. Unbelievably, after providing all this evidence, I was "ghosted", not one single person from KDA got back to me. They went ahead and charged me $1386.50 and referred me to re-read the shady contract. I would like KDA to submit their client engagement contract for BBB review if contract is ethical, or purposely deceitful to clients leaving them to charge what they wish. I am extremely shocked at their treatment of client that paid ~ $10,000, and ok to not provide a response. I would not recommend this business to anyone.Business response

I paid *** $675 on 10/20/21 to prepare my personal and business taxes for 2021.On 11/8/21 I paid *** $5000 for tax planning for starting my LLC.On 1/11/21 *** charged my credit card $1350 to prepare my taxes. They charged me 2 additional times for preparing my taxes.I disputed the charge of $1350 and they refunded **** followed the advice of the *** associate and filed all of my taxes as though my business were an S corporation. I put money in my business account and paid myself a salary of $21000. Then following his advice, I paid 1/20/22 $5019 the US treasury, 1/20/22 $42 to US treasury, 2/17/22 $261.36 to my state, 2/18/22 $285.45 to my state. I was not even an S corp. I had an appointment on 2/9/22 expecting to have my taxes complete. I was told he would be working on it. On February 18 I emailed him, no response. I called on 3/3/22 and 3/8/22. They would reach out to me! No response! Now I have been passed on to another associate. I believe my taxes are due March 15. So I call again and they tell me they filed an extension. They didnt ask me if that was ok! I scheduled in October ! Why do they need an extension? I finally wrote a letter informing them I do not want them to file my taxes. I filed with a local company and got a refund in 3 days! Three months after sending the letter, I received a phone call. She told me she would try to refund at least my tax prep money. I have not heard from them since.Business response

On behalf of Karla Dennis and Associates, I would like to extend my apologies for your experience. As a business, we always want to ensure our clients are satisfied and receive a final product once service is complete. On 6/28/22, I spoke with the client and extended the following:
-A refund for her tax preparation fees
-A follow up call with our Tax Manager to review the tax plan that we put together
-Delivery of the tax plan to client
Our goal is to ensure that client receives the tax plan that we put together for her and to ensure we properly communicate the benefit of each strategy. A call has been set for the following week. We will continue to follow up to ensure there is proper communication.

On 9.23.21 I signed an agreement for consultation services for 5,000.00, with a 30 day Money Back Guarantee. They pushed my first appointment out by 2 weeks advising they weren't scheduling for those 2 weeks, but I was assured they would extend my window for refund, due to this fact. I completed 2 welcome calls going over my goals and one brief call with a rep who had a brief question regarding my taxes. My consultation appointment which was scheduled for 10.21 (close to 30 day guarantee expiration) consisted of an hour conversation about how I should convert to an S-Corp, and a chart showing what my taxes would look like, if I did so. Because a lot of the numbers were off, I was told the report would be refined and emailed to me that afternoon. I never received the report. On 10.22 I called and sent 2 emails requesting a refund. I got an email saying they would call Monday. After sending another email today requesting a refund. I'm being told they will not provide one.Business response
