      Starving students- We had used this company to move us, once we were all done unpacking we noticed many things missing. I contacted the new owners of our house and they confirmed nothing was left there. These items were there when we left our old house last, some on the front porch and some in the garage. It was a small amount that we were told should only take 30 minutes to get. The next day at picking up last load went into hours, told that all that was left was four plants and a small tree and that they would need a third trip to get those picked up. There was room on truck but they didn't want them getting ruined with all the items in back of truck. So next day they went to pick up plants and took five hours to load them. The expense of this whole experience has been exspensive & the antique items that were from generations of family didn't make it to the new house. Can't say what happened but something is very wrong here with this whole situation & all that was lost at the end.

      I contacted this business about moving services. I was told that they used professional movers, and that was why they charged more. On the day of the move (11/15), I realized they have no movers. They hire another moving company and charge you on top of what they pay them. I contacted them, and they offered to cancel the move and return my non-refundable $200 deposit, but the movers were already there and had started moving my things. I spoke with the owner of the other moving company to see if I could pay them directly whatever they would charge, and he told me that I would lose my $200 deposit, and that I should just contact them directly the next time. So I just went ahead with the move. All of my things were already on the truck in any case. I was extremely stressed, and at the end of the move, the mover told me the total was $807.00, minus the $200 desposit that I had already paid. This didn't sound right since they had only taken about 4 hours. I was quoted $165.00 per hour for two men plus a $65 fuel charge, should have make the cost about $725. I am not sure what the additional cost is from. I could not see the invoice on the tablet that the mover had me sign, and I was so exhausted and stressed that I signed it and paid, and gave them $113.00 tip on top of the $607.00 that I paid. The mover said that I would be emailed the invoice, so I figured I could check it then. Starving Students is a scam, and now I believe I have been overcharged and I signed this receipt without even having been able to read it. Starving Students should have their license revoked. They misrepresent what they are and the services that they provide. Note, the movers started at about 9:18am and finished at about 1:15pm.

      Date of move: 10/5/2022 Complaints: 1) Foreman arrived with an injured toe, wearing an open-toed sandal. This caused him to limp, move slowly, and is overall very unsafe for a physical labor job. 2) Foreman tried to shake me down for additional money to move my two televisions, complaining that he wouldn't wrap them in blankets "for free." This despite the charge for the transaction being an hourly rate. 3) Foreman refused to move multiple items, including a ladder. He told me I should just pack it in my car. I have a Honda Accord, and this is a 10 ft. ladder. There's no way I can fit it in there; this is one of the reasons I hired movers in the first place. 4) Movers left my garage workbench on its side rather than standing upright. 5) Movers left filthy handprints and dirt, woodchips, and other gunk on my mattress and couch. 6) My filing cabinet fell off the truck during unloading, breaking it apart. I only know because I saw it fall - the movers didn't even bother to tell me. I'm not sure if it was an accident or the foreman being mad at me. 7) The movers refused to move so much of my stuff that I had to rent a 10 ft. U-Haul truck to go back to the old house and move it all myself. I filled that truck to nearly full capacity. I sent a detailed email to Starving Students with this information and they have completely ignored me.

      I answered an as for 'Starving Students' movers to move me from my former residence at ************** ***** to my present address 5 miles away. I am 73 years old and cannot move my furniture myself. Without my knowledge or approval, the job was subcontracted out to a no-name group with only one English speaker with whom I could communicate. They were obviously not 'Starving Students'. The movers left the legs on my sofa and chair skewed. Additionally, a wheel on my $700 coffee table is missing. After I threatened to report them to the BBB, one man came to my home and fixed the sofa. However, the chair and table remain broken. I paid more than $700 to have my furniture moved - expecting the job would be done by the licensed and bonded movers whom I had contacted.

The coffee table, which was expensive, is the kind with a top that lifts and becomes a hinged table. The company rep said he would find the missing wheel to the table so that it was no longer tilted on one side. He did not, despite my calling him three times. Starving Students broke my table; they need to fix it. The foot of my chair was also not put back on properly: it is twisted so that I cannot sit in it. THAT needs to be done. "Starving Students" is a ********. They sub-contract out to untrained, overworked **********. Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2021/12/27) */ We responded and fixed his issue, I am sorry for the way you think our workers are, our workers are full trained with no less than 3 yeras experience, you dont have full replacement valueation insurance, we cover what the state requires .60 cents per pound per article, we alraedy fix it and it wasnt broken as you are stating, it was missing and we put it back, you just want a new one and that wont be case, your expressive of a low opinion of our movers says a lot about you, **********? who are you referring **********************? and how are you stating that our workers are overworked? thsi tells me a lot about you.

      On August 25, 2021 I made an appointment to have the Starving Students moving company move my husband and I from our old apartment in N Long Beach CA to our new house in W Long Beach CA . The confirmation number we received was XXXXXXX. We scheduled in advance for our move date which was supposed to be September 7, 2021 between 8:00AM- 12:00 PM. On September 6,2021 (Labor Day) we received a call from ******** (Staving Students) to inform us although our window for the move was between 8:00AM- 12:00 PM the driver would be there closer to 9:00AM- 10:00AM. On our move day September 7, 2021 we got a call from the driver *** at 10:44 AM to inform us they would not be able to move us between 8:00AM- 12:00 PM it would now be between 1:00PM-5:00PM. I called a total of 8 times trying to get through to Customer Service until I finally got ****** at about 5:26 PM who informed me that the drivers were about an hour away but would be there. No one from Starving Students showed up on 9/7/21.

When I have problems I report those companies to the BBB (BBB has my complaint history. If this is how the upper management at the Starving Students Moving Company response to sub standard and unprofessional service complaints then it's no wonder the drivers are unprofessional as well (it trickles down from the top). I did not get another moving company to move me. Starving Students Moving company did the move however, the drivers that came stated they were double booked, They stated they had to start earlier than usual to move me because their headquarters messed up my original move and they had to squeeze me in before going to their original scheduled move for that day. Any company worth there salt would agree that's the best course of action for a complaint such as this. Its obvious this company is an unprofessional Company.       I am in desperate need of someone to speak to regarding an incident that occurred in ********** ** regarding my move that took place on yesterday. My property was damaged during this move, in which the movers refused to use any protective equipment to haul my furniture through the halls of my building or in the truck. I am in communication with ******** a supervisor who appears to be giving me the run around. I paid my deposit to Starving Students and later found out that they subcontracted the move to DMV moving. I was never told about the subcontracting. I entered into this business venture with Starving Students. I was told 3 days ago that he would enter a claim for my damages. I haven't heard from him and now he is avoiding my calls and not responding to emails. I just want my furniture repaired.
