Dear ***/*****,I am writing to formally lodge a complaint against Fiji Way *************** operating under the name "Marina Del Rey Boat Rentals," and its owner, ***********************. I have experienced severe dissatisfaction and concern regarding the business's practices during my recent interaction with them.On August 5, 2023, I engaged with Marina Del Rey Boat Rentals for a boat rental service. My experience revealed a series of deeply troubling practices that necessitate your attention and investigation. The staff employed by the business exhibited extreme rudeness and a dismissive attitude, which raises questions about the standards maintained by the company. It is evident that such behavior is condoned and even encouraged by the owner, ************************Furthermore, I observed a consistent pattern of unethical conduct. This includes instances of extortion and disregard for consumer rights, which was also experienced by many others as stated in their reviews on platforms like Yelp. In my particular incident, I was penalized with a $1,000 deposit forfeiture for allegedly venturing too close to the shore, despite my best efforts to maintain a safe distance. This arbitrary decision was made without legitimate cause or reason, as the owner stated to me that he would be penalized by the Lifeguards and incur fees due to our negligence. I contacted the LA ************************** and the Marina del Rey Harbor Master. On August 6, 2023, at 2:45 pm, the on-duty Harbor Master verified that there would be zero fees for the company if a Lifeguard were to ask the customer to pull back from the shore. This information contradicts the rules listed by Marina Del Rey Boat Rentals in their contract. I informed the Harbor Master that the boat rental company has been charging customers when the Lifeguard shows up, to which the Harbor Master confirmed that no such fees are levied by the Lifeguard. This raises concerns about the accuracy of Marina Del Rey Boat Rentals' claims, especially regarding the 500-yard limit, which is legally defined as 300 yards. The owner's insistence on retaining the deposit, regardless of the circumstances, is an egregious act that highlights a lack of integrity. The contract's policy of holding customers accountable by forfeiting their deposit if a GPS or Lifeguard determines their boat is too close to the shore appears inconsistent with the information provided by the Harbor Master. This raises questions about the company's practices and the accuracy of their contract's terms.According to section 17.12.470 of the Los Angeles County Code of Ordinances:No person shall operate any vessel within 300 yards of the shoreline of any beach regulated by the Part 3" I was not breaching any law. Not to mention, the 500 yards stated by the rental company is misleading customers, potentially enabling the company to exploit various scenarios to unjustly collect money from clients.Another reviewer noted a similar incident of extortion where their credit card was charged thousand of dollars because of unproven claims of damage to their equipment. This type of behavior is reported time and time again for various infractions, leaving each customer feeling scammed and abused. Enclosed with this letter are copies of relevant reviews, supporting the allegations raised against **** Way *************** and ***********************. These reviews, along with my own experience, emphasize a concerning trend of mistreatment, unethical practices, and an apparent willingness to exploit customers.I earnestly request your intervention and thorough investigation into the matters outlined above. My expectation is that this business be held accountable for all its illegal practices and unethical behavior, especially as the two-page contract provided to us contains practices that are illegal in ********** for deceptive practices, mistreating customers, or violating consumer rights.I appreciate your attention to this matter and anticipate a prompt response regarding the course of action to be taken.Sincerely,************************* **************

The owner is deceitful and dishonest. He fabricated a story about a boat accident that did not happen and tried to get us to pay him thousands of dollars for the damage. He made a diagram of a fake accident and threatened us and the other customers that if we don't all sign it he will keep our deposit and charge us even more. He also physically swung at my husband and tried to grab our phones away. Overall, he had a hard time controlling his anger, was extremely rude and kept spewing threats. We had to leave immediately fearing our safety and that of our small children with us. He also refused to return our credit card to us so we left without it.
