Hired this company to do 2 projects - a $12,000 bathroom renovation and a $115.000 ADU. We ran into a number of issues with the bathroom renovation (overcharging on change orders, taking 8 weeks to complete instead of 3 weeks). While waiting for the building permits for the ADU, the company did some preliminary work on the ADU project, after requiring a $1000 deposit and $17,500 for the “first phase” of the ADU project. Some work was started on the ADU before permits were obtained - demo of existing patio, digging of footings and some rudimentary plumbing. Two smaller projects were done as well (drainage). Each time there was an “add on”, Bobby ******** attempted to have us pay fully 4 times more than a realistic cost for the job. We were getting uneasy that this would continue throughout the project, as the contract was very vague, and the contractor seemed more than eager to find items outside the quoted amount to add in. We asked to have the contract clarified and more detailed but instead we got a bill for an additional $2000 to re-do work that was done before the permits were issued (resigning the footings). At that point, we realized that the further we went into the project, the more leverage the contractor would have to demand more money. We cancelled the contract and asked for the return of the money we had already paid ($18,500) less the amount of work he actually completed (10,000). Some of this “completed work” had to be redone, so $10000 is a generous allowance for what was actually done. Mr ******** insisted that he be allowed to finish the work instead and not repay us. We decided to check on their licence at this point, which turns out is suspended, and awaiting the decision of a disciplinary hearing for felonies that would substantially impact his licence. As he could not legally continue to work on our project, we again demanded the return of our money. Again, they refused to pay us back. His licence number is ******
