I went to UCI for a spider bite and I went through it three in the morning and it took him over five hours to to see me and I just got the bill and really just prescribing me of some over-the-counter medicine. They charge me $4500. This is a Disgrace, they did not render $4500 worth of anything and this is the problem with her healthcare system

My wife had a 1/2 cyst removed from her big toe.She requested the cost of the procedure in the surgeons office before the procedure was performed. The *** surgeon's office told my wife the information could not be provided. We could not have imagined *** would **** $22,732 for a 45 minutes outpatient procedure. The lack of transparency is outrageous.I called *** to dispute the ****. The billing office told me the charges are set by the University! The charges are comparable to other hospitals. My insurance company paid their charges. The charges are "not disputable".

10/0421- Had authorized MRI 10/12/21 Received statement showing a balance of $75.00 as patient responsibility and due by 11/01/2021.Call placed to billing office and was advised that amount represents the patients outstanding copayment 10/21/21- Received a recorded courtesy call message regarding the copayment.Placed call to billing office and spoke with ********. Informed her this claim/copayment is not late, not in delinquent and given the due date of 11/01/21, there is no reason for this call and to notate the account that until it is past due, this type of call is not legal.10/27/21- Copayment of $75.00 mailed to billing office Pasadena, California address.`10/28/21- Received follow up telephone message with the same courtesy call verbiage.Placed 2nd call to billing office and advised representative (who did not identify herself by name) that these phone calls are not courtesy calls but rather a form of harassment given this account is not delinquent and in fact a check has just been remitted.Give the events that have been happening since 2020, it is hard to understand how a company can place calls once the statement has been sent when the amount in question is not due until the following month. This type of practice needs to be remedied and corrected to cease and desist with these pr active calls and stop these harassing calls to patients who are dealing with numerous health matters, especially, when this type of issue is no more than a copayment. If they are this concerned over a $75.00 copayment, the provider should request the copayment at the time the services are rendered..
