My furnace was working fine, I just wanted a thorough review to ensure it was in good shape for my tenants. The technician found multiple things wrong, a drip in the furnace (he said maybe it came from his hand but there’s rust indicting some rust of previous leak), no roof leaks at the pipe though. A potential crack and nut that are indicators it’s about to fail and co2 will be in the home, ductwork as if someone fell on it. And some other issues. At 19 years old my Lenox system according to him was beyond the 10-18 year furnace life. So I asked for a new furnace quote. He said another technician would confirm his findings. The person who came was not a technician, he was a salesman. He pressured me to start work this week for the best discount and yes I would have to replace all my ductwork for them to warranty it all. $12k was the price for both. I needed to decide the same day so he could put his guys on the job. He was going to have my scared tenants sign the warranty which I had not had time to read the many disclaimers. I didn’t have time for second opinions. I decided not to take the bait and had a second company come out the next day…… Nothing wrong with my furnace, and ductwork was in good condition but for one small area which they corrected. No co2 detected with meter. Nor signs of imminent failure, or moisture. They even said I should get another 10 years out of it! They did remove some left over ductwork from installation in 2012 which pacific aire included in a photo they shared with me demonstrating damage. It was taken to the trash. Did they try to pressure me because I am a woman and not present? Very disappointing as they installed this system 19 years ago. Current customer tactics seem to be fear and pressure. The Co2 is scary and no one wants to potentially be affected so it is a great scare tactic.
