My 9 years old daughter cried when she walk out the Kumon classroom on March 1, 2022.She turned in her worksheets which she has done twice or third times already when she walked in the classroom yesterday. She thought she might take a test and do the upgrade worksheets. However, without checking her homework, the instructor ******* asked her to do a worksheet which my daughter has already repeated 3 or 4 times already. During the back and forth argument, ******* might lose her patience and be rude or not polite to my daughter. Finally ******* agreed my daughter to do the test. However once my daughter finished the test in 14 minutes, ******* asked my daughter sit there for nothing more than 20 minutes when she graded the test. When my daughter walked out the classroom, ******* did not give my daughter the worksheets which ******* should grade during the class as usual. My daughter was so upset last night and kept saying: I hate Kumon!I went back and talked to ******* and her husband ****** who is the owner of that Kumon branch. The couple refused to apology for their improper work and their attitude. ****** told me my daughter is not a good student and turned his back to me when I was talking. So rude!Business response

As I explained to the Parent, Kumon method has a lot of repetition even student get their answers correct the first time. However, the parent wants to get more worksheets (different sets of worksheets) and he wanted the worksheet at the level that he demands. And this doesn't follow the Kumon method and during the whole program, I explained to parent the Kumon method and encouraged parents to look for different option if that doesn't work for him. So parent decide to finish the program in Feb.
March 01 is a make up class. The student came in the classroom and demand a test even though she haven't finished her assignment. After explaining why it is good for her to finish the assignment before taking a test, she still refused to follow so we gave her the test and explained the mistakes in the test patiently after the test. While parent and student considered this is rude, we hold a different view to that. We are professional educators and we treat every student with respect. Other staffs in the classroom confirmed that.
As far as the tuition is concerned, parent acknowledged that the tuition is non-refundable when they enrolled. Kumon tuition is monthly based and we charge $160 per month. Parent apparently doesn't understand the value of Kumon program, which includes materials, planning, grading and teaching. Therefore, we don't believe it is fair to refund any amount after student attended a full month of program. I don't believe any of our staffs treated the student improperly and I don't believe we acted rude during the class. Parent was totally biased because the program didn't go as he wanted. However, we did everything following Kumon guideline and this method works for most of the students. That is why we received good reputation in this field.

On March 1st, my daughter went to Kumon with all the assignments she finished. She turned in all the worksheets to the instructor whose name is *******. However, ******* asked her to repeat some of the worksheets which my daughter just gave to her. ******* did not check any of them but she just asked my daughter to repeat them again which my daughter had already repeated twice by the end of February. My 9 years old daughter told me the instructor lost her patience during the back and forth. After the test, ******* asked my daughter to just sit there for more than 20 minutes without any assignments. It looks like a sort of punishment. By the way, ******* is the wife of the Kumon center owner.
We paid Kumon for learning something, not for punishment. During the 1hour class, my daughter only took a free test and was treated rudely by the instructor. That's why we ask for an apology and $40 refund for that class. Nobody wants their kids being treated like this. and it is not acceptable in the kids education business.
I've made a complaint to Kumon ******** The regional representative sent me a card with a bunch of flowers and a $50 refund this week. I accepted those things from Kumon USA but I am so disappointed with the Rancho Santa Fe Kumon center. I don't recommend any parents sending their kids to that place.
