We hired Hughes Construction in December 2022 to rebuild our home after a fire. Hughes has struggled to perform their duties as our contractor because of contractor licensing issues. They currently have their contractor's license suspended. ********************** is presently still requesting draw payments for jobs that are not completed or started.

      Business response

      10/04/2023

Our license is current and active. The complaint is unfounded.

      Customer response

      10/04/2023

I am rejecting this response because: As you can clearly see the Contractors ********************* shows the license is suspended as of the original complaint date. Also Please see additional issues with their Contractors License. These issues with their Contractors License have caused us delays after delays with the work being done to our home after our house fire. As you can see there were also issues with Hughes Constructions updated workers compensation documents from the Shasta counties search permit eTRAKit site. Please also see the attached email from the Shasta *********** of ******************* confirming the license was in fact suspended. ********************** / ***** Hughes Construction **** was fully aware the license may be suspended for failure to resolve an outstanding final liability. This was not unfounded or a mistake of CSLB.

      Business response

      10/09/2023

The building permit for the project was approved by the County on 9/6/23 and issued on 9/8/23; that is not a delay of project. The demo permit for the carport and attached cover was approved on 6/16/23 and issued on 6/29/23. This permit was not critical to the process of the job as the main permit wasn't yet approved.  There wasn't a licensing issue; the county needed updated workers comp information. We have not had 'ongoing licensing issues' that have delayed any projects.

      Customer response

I am rejecting this response because: Please see the attached Permits.

      Building permit  Bres23-0039

Applied for on 5/15/2023          Approved date 9/6/2023           Issued 9/8/2023

***** Hughes Construction delayed our permit from the APPLIED DATE until the issue ********** the highlighted areas stating PENDING TO BE ISSUED WAITING FOR FEES TO BE PAID AND UPDATED WORKERS COMP DOCS. This was due to the pending Workers Comp issues they had.

      Demo permit - demo23-0042

Applied for on 6-16-2023           Approved date 6/16/2023          Issued date 6/29/2023

The attached application intake status shows ON HOLD under REMARKS - NEED UPDATED WORKERS COMP AND FEES PAID.

***** Hughes Construction in fact didn't do the Demo on the porch/shed.

Please Release our permit so we are not held hostage by Hughes Construction anymore. We had a devastating house fire December 16, 2022 and lost practically everything. Our insurance company has a 1 year time frame for work to be completed and we are running out of time to repair/rebuild our home.
