When our washing machine stopped working at our home in **************, we looked on Yelp and called MMO Appliance Repair in ********* (******), **. The owner, *****************************, stopped by and told us that our old washing machine couldnt be repaired, because the parts to fix it werent available anymore.******* suggested we purchase a used washer and dryer from him for $750. He said he would personally clean and sanitize them, and repair and replace any faulty parts before delivery. He assured us that he had a 90-day guarantee policy to protect customers like us in case anything went wrong.Unfortunately, things didnt play out this way. Shortly after ******* delivered the used ******* washer and dryer on May 20, 2023, hundreds of black bits began appearing on our clothes and at the bottom of the drum after each load of laundry. We told ******* about it, but he said he didnt know what was happeningeven though he has more than 10 years experience as an appliance repair tech. The washer also only activated about once every five or six times, which we alerted him about on June 3.When we did an online search for black bits found in laundry, we hit the jackpot. We discovered washing machines that have experienced heavy and repeated laundry cycles, and overuse of detergents and fabric softeners, often develop grime and black bits over time. You need to take apart the entire appliance to eliminate the buildup.******* said he would stop by on July, 4, 2023, but cancelled. He rescheduled for the next day, but cancelled again. He then rescheduled for July 6, 2023, but he never came by. On July 13, 2023, we contacted ******* to ask for a refund or exchange, but he never responded. Soon afterward, the washing machine stopped working and the dryer began delivering damp laundry no matter which setting you use. On August 3, 2023, we contacted ******* again to tell him the problem needs to be resolved because its gotten worse, but we still havent heard from him.

I sold a washer and dryer set to the consumer. When I arrived to the location I realized I had to go up a grass hill to deliver the units. Upon arrival the consumer was yelling at me to move my vehicle towards the bottom of the hill. I moved it as a courtesy. I installed the washer and dryer and as I was walking in and out of the home she was right behind me cleaning after me.  She also requested that I take her trash. I do not provide trash pickup services; Im an appliance repair man. As a courtesy I took her trash to help her out. ****** did later reach out to me in regards to the appliances not working and I offered to go and fix them but she just wanted a refund. I do not provide refunds.  As of today I am willing to offer the consumer a 30 Day warranty so I can go repair their appliances.

I am rejecting this response because:

After carefully researching the problems and issues associated with the washer and dryer we purchased from *******, weve decided that we cant accept anything other than a refund. Our decision is based on the following reasons:

First, ******* delivered a washer and dryer that we did not agree upon. He texted us a picture of a silver set on May 17, but arrived with a black pair on May 20. We believe the black appliances were not properly restored to the like new conditions he originally promised us.

Second, although ******* said he would personally clean, and repair or replace any damaged parts on the machines before he delivered them, we started having problems with the washer and dryer almost immediately after delivery. Black bits, gunk and grime began appearing at the bottom of the drum after each load of laundry, the washer activated intermittently and soon stopped working entirely, and the dryer delivered damp clothing no matter which setting you used. We later learned these problems are commonly associated with extreme overuse.

Third, when we told ******* about the issues we were experiencing, he dealt with it by ghosting us for almost two months (July 5-August 26). Even though we were still within his 90-day guarantee policy, he abruptly stopped returning our calls and text messages when we needed him most.

******** lack of communication ended up being a blessing in disguise. When we didnt hear back from him, we reached out to several appliance experts who could help us understand the underlying problems with both machines. Veteran repair techs repeatedly told us the same thing. Even if you try to repair the washer and dryer, it will just be a matter of time before they break down again because they most likely experienced heavy and repeated laundry loads on a daily basis, overuse of detergents and fabric softeners, and were not properly maintained by their previous owner. They come to the conclusion that these appliances are beyond repair based on all the issues that have surfaced in such a short period of time.

As a result of the discovery that both machines are exhibiting problems commonly associated with extreme overuse, we think its only reasonable to request a refund of $750.
