Consumers request information regarding the debt and the company emails them a paper saying they owe money but with no information regarding the original debt. Consumers then indicate to the company that it has been past the statue at limitations at which point the company threatens to take the consumer to court. On March 22, 2021, BBB submitted a written request to the company encouraging them to address the pattern of complaints. As of April 23, 2021, BBB has had no response.

**** from Adept text a message to my cell phone and to my brother’s cell phone stated that there was an open investigation and I needed to call ###-###-####. I contacted him a couple of days later to see what the call was regarding. **** told me that in 2012 I had an account with HSBC Card services that was charged off in 2013. He stated new interest was applied to the account and that I now had to pay the debt of over $2000. He offered to settle for a price of over $1000. I let him know that I would be willing to pay by the end of the week as he only gave me 48 hours to pay. I looked at my credit report and this debt is not showing, I checked with the state of NC and found that the statute of limitations had passed on this account. I called **** at the above number and let him know that this debt was obtained during my marriage and since I was getting a divorce I contacted my divorce attorney and would require verification of the debt. **** then became hostile, refused to send the verification via the mail, only offering to send a statement via email. I did receive the statement and it does not give details about the account. It only states that the debt has been verified. He did not believe that I had contacted my attorney, he then told me that the settlement offer had been revoked and I was now required to pay the entire debt. I let him know that the only way I would agree to pay was by receiving the mailed verification. He stated that he had sent it months ago and would not send it again. I let him know that I had never received this via mail. He refused to send it and stated that a summons would be sent for me to go to court. He got more and more aggressive in the way he spoke and more threatening. I ended the call because of his hostile and belittling remarks stating I was being coached and had made up an attorney.

I got a call from a local number last week and they left a voicemail message stating there was an urgent legal matter and that I needed to contact an 800 number to speak with someone regarding it. I called the 800 number, it just rang and went to voicemail. The voicemail was very generic and did not state the company’s name or anything. The same caller contacted me the following day but from a different number stating the same information. I asked what the call was regarding and all the rep told me was that a pertained to a legal matter. She could not provide me with any details and when I asked why she was calling and not the company directly, she couldn’t answer me. I called the 800 number to find out what was going on, and the lady explained she was contacting me regarding a debt I owed for Wells Fargo for a remaining balance of a loan in the amount of $1600. She proceeded to tell me because of the interest it was now $2800. She stated they’ve tried contacting me multiple times and that a letter was mailed to me, which I called her out on her **. She told me if I didn’t settle the debt, that they would take me to court and the amount I owed would be higher because of court and legal fees. When I told her I was not able to pay the full amount, she told me they would be willing make payment arrangements but I would have to pay around $700 today and they would split the rest in 4 payments. I told her that wasn’t going to work for me. She stated they would be willing to settle if I paid $1800 and they would consider the debt paid. I asked more questions and she could not tell me what the loan was for other than it was for Wells Fargo! I asked for copies of the document and she confirmed she would email it to me. When I received the email, two letters where enclosed with generic information. I looked up the name of the company and saw that the call was a scam. Beware that this company will try and call family members, friends, even your work to harass and threaten.
