On the day of my procedure, I was charged $236.96. I paid it using a credit card. Shortly thereafter, I received another bill for $48.20. There was no explanation, but like most people, I understand very little about health insurance and co-pays, so I mailed a check with a request for an explanation. A few days later, my check was returned to me, uncashed. Again, no explanation. At that point, I checked my insurance benefits and learned that my cost for the procedure, payable to the surgery center, was only $48.20. I called and requested a refund of $188.76. I heard nothing from the surgery center, so I sent a letter requesting a refund of $188.76. I still heard nothing from the center. So, I called again on May 17th and spoke to the billing department. I was told the center is undergoing an ownership transfer and I would get a refund, if they decided I was entitled to one, in six months. I was told they could not process any banking payments until the ownership transition was complete. There is no way a medical business is going to proceed six months without banking. Besides, I paid by credit card. All they need to do is credit my card the amount I am owed. Please help me obtain my refund. While you're at it, you may want to check into why I was overcharged in the first place. My hunch is they do this on a daily business hoping no one will look into their actual insurance benefits.

A reimbursement check was mailed to this patient on 6/11/24.

       Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********. The business indicated they mailed a refund check on 6/11/24. This will satisfy the complaint IF AND ONLY IF a refund check is received. The fact that they indicated to you they have mailed a refund check, doesn't necessarily mean they have actually mailed the check. Please do not close the complaint yet; Instead, give it a week for the check they mailed on 6/11/24 to arrive and be successfully negotiated at a bank. Once that occurs, I will notify you to close the complaint. Please reach out to me on next week to allow time for the resolution to work itself out.
      Thank you,
