Took 08 Nissan Altima Coupe to Protrans for transmission rebuild, CVT type transmission, on 08/26/20. Was told after the fact, they, Protrans, do not rebuild CVT type trans,. but sub the work out to a specialist, ******* CVT transmissions, which I have had no luck in locating any business under that name in the So. Cal. area. Was never given this information, list of replaced parts, invoice copy from "*******", till after dispute filed. After going back and forth with Protrans, my father spoke to a few local transmission repair shops, including AAMCO, and a couple of relatives that also had trans shops, including an AAMCO in San Juan Capistrano, all stating that the CVT trans, is an expensive unit to rebuild, and better off obtaining a rebuilt from the factory or certified builder. Protrans had the trans "replaced/rebuilt" 3X, which after the 3rd, we noticed that it was not the original trans case, as the serial numbers no longer matched. I returned mid-July with the trans slipping severely, and blowing trans fluid out the top vent tube, although all vehicle gauges never went past normal. Protrans stated that this type of trans is known to "slip" and spit out fluid when hot, although nothing ever registered as overheating. They also stated, that it is recommended to install a external cooler, this the 1st mention of such cooler almost a year after the fact. Returned on 10/28/21 with the same issue of trans slippage, except worse now. Protrans kept vehicle overnight, and notified me 10/29/21 that the trans needed to be replaced and that it was no longer under warranty, as it only had a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty. They advised they had one available at a local salvage yard, would waive the install fee, but I would have to purchase and no warranty. With all the problems of their "rebuild" and able to locate another CVT trans so quickly was that there was never a rebuild, but in fact just swap outs with salvage yard transmissions. Want a refund plus towing fees.
