We contracted California Exteriors to install a stamped concrete patio in our backyard with a medium grey stain. Initially, the patio appeared to be fine but within 6 months the grey coloration became signicantly mottled w patches of white throughout. We discovered that we had been ill-advised by the sales person, ************, at the time of contract signing, not to seal the patio. We contacted the owner, ********************* who agreed to attempt to remedy the grossly uneven coloration by applying additional stain. This only slightly improved the appearance and was only temporary. We have consulted several other contractors who advised stripping the patio completely and starting over, stating it was a significant oversight not to have the patio sealed. We are seeking $ ***** to strip, stain and seal the patio

We will contact the homeowner (*********************) and see if we can schedule an appointment to get a resolution.

I am rejecting this response because:  There already was a failed attempt for this company to resolve the issues, resulting in a worse predicament because ****************** added sealer over very uneven additional color.  Also, when the attempted fix continued to quickly fade and fail and the patios appearance **** comments from visitors, we conversed with ****************** about our unhappiness and he responded sharply saying I told you there is nothing that can be done about that now that the sealer is on.

Of interest, other concrete contractors who viewed the patio said the sealer absolutely could be removed.

Based on ongoing nightmare this has presented, combined with having witnessed ****************** getting very frustrated/angry with us, we choose not to have him make another attempt but instead want work done by another company.  When we told ****************** we would look into another company, he said that was our prerogative.

What we want is reimbursement toward a different contractors expenses, as stated in the original complaint.

We have responded to the complaint previously and were in negotiations with the customer. As of todays date 7/13/24 we have come to an agreement with the customer and complaint should be resolved with both parties early next week.
      Thank you,

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

California Exteriors of *********, ** poured a driveway at my residence in *********** **. in 2021. It is substandard and it was not poured at a consistent 4 inches. The repairs that this company attempted are substandard and makes my new driveway even more substandard. The area of most concern (that might be 2 inches thick), where a lousy patch job on one corner was performed, also vibrates when a large filled sandbag is dropped on it. Hows that for a solid, concrete driveway? This company wouldve never treated one of their rich clients in *************** or ********* etc. the way that they have treated me. The entry area of the driveway is not poured to industry regulations. The photos included in this claim show the entryway being poured at barely 2 inches. Higher up on the driveway, one photo shows the pour around 4 inches. California Exteriors needs to do the right thing and re-pour my driveway and/or refund my money so I can have the driveway I hired ********************* to originally do, poured correctly,I will be taking every legal action against ********************* that I can.

In one of the photos that ****** provided it shows the perimeter forms. Those forms are 1x4 we run string lines from across the forms side to side prior to pour so that we have a consistent depth.
What the photo does not show is 3/8 rebar 2 ft. on center, we installed that the morning of our pour. We also use 6 sacks of cement per yard along with fiber mesh in the mix.
We also put expansion joints every 5-7 feet to reduce the risk of cracking.
****** also provided photos after we stripped the forms and it clearly illustrates a proper thickness far exceeding 2 inches. ****** had a crack on the lower right flare. We went out and saw cut and then removed and replaced the corner.
We dowelled in with rebar on the existing driveway, we dug a hole 1 foot deep and poured that triangle back 1 foot thick for the simple reason that if a delivery truck were to back up on it they would not re-break the small flared area. I do not believe the photo showing the flared area provided is current. When I last met with ******, she showed me a hair line crack on a driveway panel. She asked me to replace the panel and I said that I would not because the crack has not opened up and is within industry standards. Now she wants a whole new driveway. She is complaining that if she drops a sandbag on it that it rattles?  California Exteriors goes above and beyond industry standards and norms to provide a quality product. To whom it may concern at the BBB please call me to discuss further.

      Thank you,
