A couple of months before my FBN was due for its first renewal, I received a very official looking form by mail from Fictitious Business Name Renewal Center informing me that my *** filed with the Santa Clara County Recorders Office was about to expire, and that CA law required me to renew it ASAP and to publish it in a local newspaper. As it was my first renewal, I assumed the county went through this office in ********** for renewals, filled out the form and included my credit card information on it to pay the requested $169.00. Payment was debited a few days after. When I received an official letter from the County of ****************, I realized that I had been SCAMMED, that I only needed to pay $40.00 and that renewal could be very easily done online! I am NOT going to send the SECOND form received from Fictitious Business Name Renewal Center (sent a few days ago) supposedly to complete my renewal. I want my money back, and after they have refunded the amount on my credit card, I want them to remove all my information from their database and never contact me again.Business response

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. I still have to see the refund on my account, but my bank confirmed it had gone through and should appear within 5 business days. I will ask BBB to reopen the case if I don't see the money refunded.
Thanks for the help you provided!

This was a fraudulent renewal notice for my Fictitious Business Name. It arrived around the expected time of the needed renewal. It had the required language as per the BBB notice that it was not endorsed by any government agency, and the envelope indicated that it did not contain a government document, but the sender is clearly attempting to defraud businesses---these alerts, even if bolded, took up such a small portion of the paper that they can easily be missed. Yes, paying attention helped me identify the scam, but the fact that this kind of letter was sent in the first place is highly problematic. Please desist!!!!!Business response

This company is a scam and needs to be removed from continuing scamming other small businesses. Kindly flag this company, after so many complaints and poor reviews, how is this company still allowed to legally and lawfully conduct business?! It is disguising itself with government formatted letter, deadlines that means nothing but create a false sense of urgency and using names of government agencies to provide what seem like a legitimate letter. This company needs to be closed down entirely.Business response

The company called Fictitious Business Name Renewal Center sent me a misleading and fraudulent Fictitious Business Name renewal offer to my business. I send this company the requested fees under the impression that the renewal forms sent by the company originated from my local county government, only to discover that there is no affiliation between the company and any government agency when I recieved the real renewal offer from the Los Angeles County Registrar -Recorder/County Clerk a week later. The fee to file was $159, which is significantly more than what the local county charges to file of $26. I am filing this complaint to request a refund from the company and also to report this complaint against the company for their deceptive and fraudulent business practices.Business response

This business is a scam! I received a letter from them. They pose as the actual fictions business name center requesting $159 for my fictions business name renewal. They had no problem processing my check 2 months ago. I found out it was a scam when the actual county clerk sent me a letter stating my renewal fee for $54 was due! I called them and they alerted me about this company and that they never received any payment from them which is why I still owe them money! I'm absolutely livid!!Business response

My husband's business received a bill from "Fictitious Business Name Renewal Center" for processing of our business name renewal. Being the busy working people that we are, my husband took the notice as an official bill from our county and paid the requested fee of $169. Unfortunately, I found out this company is a fraud as they have a GRADE F clearly posted on this BBB website! This "business" has been verified to be a fraud/scam, and no service is being provided from this so called "business", My cue to find out this company is a scam is when I received the REAL renewal bill from our county that came days later in the mail and it was only $40.00 to renew. As others have requested on the BBB website in regards to this so called business - "Fictitious Business Name Renewal Center", It certainly was not our intent to utilize this company for their fictitious service and kindly request a refund for our hard earned money that we were scammed out of by "Fictitious Business Name Renewal Center." What as shame "Fictitious Business Name Renewal Center"....scamming people out of their hard earned money in this economy...unbelievable. Thank you BBB for allowing me to file this complaint.Business response
