I called for truck repair on April 4th 2022 and he said they can do it. After giving all the vehicle information I took it in to have it diagnosed on April 14th. Apparently the mechanic said that the engine was in really bad condition and it was not worth fixing, so he recommended to get a new remanufactured engine instead. He gave me an estimate of $5,000.00. He said it could be less. I agreed to move forward with the job and he asked me for a $2,500.00 down payment which I gave him that same day. He never followed up with me until I called him on the 26th and he said he ordered the engine. On May 5th I asked him for a receipt for the down payment I gave him in cash since he wasn't updating me on the status. He calls me on May 21st to tell me the engine had shipped from the east coast and would arrive the next day. He calls me a couple days later to tell me that it's the wrong engine and there are no more engines available. He tells me we're going to rebuild it instead and it was a better option and will be cheaper. I agree and ask for pictures so he takes the engine out on June 1st. As he is following up with pictures and updates, He doesn't tell me he took the engine to a 3rd party rebuild shop. I get a call on June 7th saying I need to pay an additional $2,000.00 on top of the original $5,000.00 to get the engine after it's completed. Totaling $,7000.00. I tell him I can't pay that that it's too much and to tell them I don't want to proceed I didn't agree to that and he says it's too late that the rebuilder already started and ordered parts. He says I have 10 days to come up with the $2,000.00 and that I can give him payments once the truck is finished for the remaining $2,500.00. We can work something out with payments after. I am refusing to pay the total of $7,000.00 which was not the original agreement and he proceeded without my consent and without telling me I was going to be charged more. So now I don't have the truck, engine, nor the money I gave.
