I've been using Blurb since 2012 and have written 4 books using them. I have been very happy with each one! That being said, I haven't opened the books I've written up for sale to the public yet, mainly because they were written just for me and friends/family. So I can't speak to the royalties or sales end of things. But I've been happy with the quality of each book I've ordered so far. My only complaint would be the prices for anything other than the trade books. The trade *********** downloads are at a nice price point, but the photo book I ordered was kind of expensive. It was less than 50 pages, 7x7 size, paperback, with shipping, cost me over $30 - for one copy. In order to sell this to the public & make a profit, I'd have to list it at almost $30! I'm afraid nobody will be willing to pay that for such a small, paperback book. I know photo books are more expensive everywhere, and I haven't tried printing it anywhere else to be able to compare the price points, so perhaps Blurb is still comparable to others? I will say, however, I was very happy with the photo quality in the book copy I received! I am considering opening a couple of my books up to the public for sale in the near future, so we'll see where it goes from there, but for now, I'm a very satisfied customer!Review from Roman S

Stay away from this business, there are other options for sure. I paid one book $25 1 year ago and only 1 year later, they attempted almost to charge me $90 for the same book. Stay away from this rip off business!Blurb, Inc. Response

Hello,I'm sorry to hear of the confusion with your book cost. Please note that we didn't attempt to charge you a much higher amount for exactly the same book. I understand that you uploaded a new version of your book, so you're under the impression that it is the same book format. However, it isn't. Last year you selected the **************** format, whereas this year you re-uploaded your book as a Standard Portrait photo book. Photo books have always been more expensive than magazines. To view which format you purchased last year, please log into your Blurb account and click My Orders.If you accidentally re-uploaded your magazine as a photo book, please get the correct specifications for your magazine from the following page: *************************************************************************** After correcting your file size, please re-upload it as a magazine to order the correct format at the lower price. The photo book I ordered was a real disappointment... Some photos have a pink/red/orange tint, and some are blurred. These defects do not show up in the file created for the book or in the *** I purchased - they are clear, sharp photographs, all 300 DPI. My contacts with "customer service" have been useless. I have sent them photos of the pages and the associated original photograph for comparison. And now they tell my that it's the quality of the photo that is causing the problem. and have requested I send the original photos. Never mind that those are the same images I have already uploaded to their website. So, I have given up.Blurb, Inc. Response

Hello,I'm really sorry to hear that you're disappointed with your book. I was able to find your support request and see that the problems that you mentioned were present in the book file you submitted for printing. Since we're a self-publishing service and not a publisher, we need to print each book as-is without applying any corrections to your book file.I understand that the problems you've reported are not visible in the original images. However, those issues are clearly visible in the book file. Therefore, reprinting your book as-is would recreate the same problems.I see that our Customer Support team provided some tips to avoid grainy images in the printed book. I had exceptional service via a chat and email with Blurb Support. An employee named ***** spent a lot of time guiding me with my many questions about creating a blank book with a custom cover for my son to write poems/lyrics in. ***** went above and beyond when the email (containing details I needed to refer to) of our live chat did not make it to my current email account. I cannot get hold of anyone in Blurb. They have wiped all my information. I uploaded a book paid for it and when I went to check its status all my order was missing my book was missing. When I went to see if they answered my emails they said my cases were solved. They closed them. I haven't talked to anybody. My issue was not solved. They don't answer phones at all. I do have the confirmation. It is impossible to get hold of people when they had behind an online service. If I could give them one star, I would. They have horrible customer service.Blurb, Inc. I was able to find your support request and see that a colleague from Customer Support explained to you why your order was gone. I also see that you were offered a solution you are happy with. I understand that you tried to call us, but Blurb doesn't offer phone support, therefore we don't have a dedicated line that customers can call. However, we're here to help via email and chat. Finally, I'd like to clarify that your requests were not solved, but just merged to have all of your messages in the same conversation. They stole ALL my royalties. They claimed that they changed the amount per book but I was NEVER EVER aware that they were changing the price. Not once did they call, text, email, informing me of the changes. So here I am, paying for promotions for my books to be bought, just to find out Im not getting any of my royalties because the prices for everything changed in their company. This business is a FRAUD. Theyre customer service ***** badly and never again will I work with them. I work so hard- and for them to just take my money is insane and isnt legal at all. ESPECIALLY without even ensuring that Ive acknowledged the change or else I would have adjusted my pricing before making all these sales that I cannot get on royalties. I will be filing with the courts to ensure all the money Ive worked for is recovered. Never again will I suggest them to anyone and will be very vocal on my platforms to their illegal and unjustly acts. I have proof of all attempts to fix this issue and its been weeks, if not months of trying to get someone capable of actually caring. I have taken all my trade books off of their site but theyll still make money off of my books until all are sold. Im taking business somewhere else and its a shame because I had a lot more books in progress to make a good relationship with blurb. But I cannot express enough how much I hate blurb for doing this to my passion. Until blurb can make this right, I will make sure to fight blurb in every angle till I get what is justifiably mine.Review from Kate M

Where do I start.1) Charged almost $200 more sales tax than required. What state has a 18% tax rate? Interesting way to add revenue to the bottom line.2) Book cover did not have the text that should have been on it. I sent them a copy of the *** they recommend you downloading prior to sending them the final copy. It clearly showed text on the front cover however it was omitted from the 60 books I ordered. They will not/cannot reprint only the book jacket so my only recourse is to re-order the entire book with the book jacket with a $300 discount. (the order was $2000.)3) Same as above but the picture on the back cover was completely missing. Sent them the final pdf and their response was same as above.
