I was charged three times the amount for a yearly subscription and I received no notice about renewal. The charge was quickly refunded once I sent a claim in but there was no apology or admission of a mistake. The only way to reach anyone to resolve an issue is to email them. I checked my PayPal account and they tried to charge me $154 TWICE for a yearly subscription. Although the service was great, their billing practices are highly unethical and dishonest. I will never ever recommend Grammarly to anyone for anything.Review from Bas B

I attempted to resolve an issue with Grammarly Support but it only worsened the situation, making me feel as if they were trying to silence me. Heres what happened: On April 21, I was writing an essay using my student Grammarly account, which had reverted to a free version after my college discontinued Grammarly. I tried to activate a 7-day Premium trial, entered my PayPal information, but the Premium features didnt activate and I received no confirmation email. Despite multiple checks, the Premium features remained inaccessible, so I submitted my essay without Grammarlys plagiarism check.Concerned about being charged, I checked my account the next day and found no changes; I still could not access the Premium features However, on April 27, Grammarly charged my PayPal account $156.06 ($144 for the subscription and a $12 tax). Grammarly confirmed they sent a confirmation email to my private email, not my student email. Logging in with my personal credentials proved both emails were linked to my student account, contradicting their statement. I documented this with screenshots and timestamps. Grammarly then went silent for three days.Subsequently, CashApp, linked to my PayPal account, informed me I was ineligible for a refund and needed to repay $123.55 to Grammarly. Grammarly admitted their mistake of overcharging me ($156.06 instead of $144), refunded the excess $12+, and gave me approximately $114 as a courtesy. CashApp now claims it was a partial refund, requiring it to be returned to Grammarly.I assert Grammarly legally owed me a full refund of $156.06 since I never received the Premium features. They need to pay me $32.51 more, accounting for the $12 refund and $114 "courtesy payment" they gave me already. As an unemployed, disabled student and single mother, every dollar counts. Additionally, I believe CashApp has no right to demand repayment since transactions went through PayPal. Thus, I do not owe Grammarly $123.55 or any amount claimed by CashApp.Grammarly, Inc. Response

Dear Grammarly Support,Although I appreciate your response and your investigation into my case, I'd like to clarify a few points and reiterate my concerns.First, the issue was related to an unauthorized charge on my Cash App account; I had made the 7-day trial using my PayPal account, so I would like to know how it is that Grammarly was able to access my Cash App account when they are not linked with one another. Secondly, I did not file a chargeback with my bank; I asked PayPal to discontinue any future payments from Grammarly. There was also no way for me to know that asking Paypal to put an end to all future payments to Grammarly would automatically discontinue Premium features, features which I never received access to- Im not that smart nor do I have access to Grammarlys company policies to be able to know that. I believe you repeating that statement to me is your way of throwing a red ******* to distract me from the main issue. Despite my multiple attempts to resolve the problem through Grammarly Support, I was left with a Grammarly account that did not have access to the Premium features (even after you said you would turn the features back on) and an unexpected charge of $156.06. My intention was but to seek a direct resolution from Grammarly. Initially, however, I saw that there was a charge on my Paypal statement that said Grammarly had taken $156.06 out of my PayPal account, and my Cash App indicated that an amount of $141- was taken out the next day by Gramarly.. By the way, the payment from Paypal was taken out before the 7-day trial ended, which triggered a response from Grammarly; They gave me the $12 tax back (they had mistakenly tacked on a $12 tax), apologizing for the error of initially charging it to me, and they also gave me funds in the amount of $111.55 (approximately) for my troubles, but they dug in their heels, saying that they would not be refunding me any money. So, altogether, they gave me $123.55 when they had originally taken a total of $156.06. However, since I saw two charges, I initially assumed, Grammarly had taken out two fees, one from each account. I was really confused how you had access to my Cashapp, and I still am. I called Cashapp to tell them what had happened. Cashapp opened a case. I then called Paypal. For some reason, ****** did not feel the need to open a case, even though they said they would. When I spoke to a representative later on, they said there was no need to look into this because Cash App was already on the case.Regarding your response, I understand your policy on deactivating subscriptions following a chargeback. However, this situation arose due to a mistake on Grammarly's end. Your team acknowledged overcharging me, issued a partial refund, and then said that I indeed had access to the Premium features. Interestingly, you communicated with me on my student account but claimed that I had initiated the 7-day trial, using a mysterious personal account, which didnt exist. I tried over and over to get to it and it didnt work. I asked Grammarly to direct me on how to get to my personal account. It took them approximately a week to get back to me about this (when it took but hours to respond to everything before this request), and suddenly they had a personal account for me that came from where?- I don't know, because I never had a personal account, I was introduced to Grammarly because of my university. I had even tried logging on with my email and using my personal ****** account to no avail. But now suddenly, I was able to log on using my personal ****** account and my email! What do you know! On the "personal" Grammarly account, there were with 2 pieces of writing I had never seen in my life and one of my essays that one can very easily grab from my student Canvas account, which ********************** had access to at that point. This creeped me out to no end. I shut both accounts down. My university had already been getting so many complaints about Grammarly from the student body that they had begun disconnecting all Grammarly accounts from Canvas at that point; Meaning, students could still use their student Grammarly accounts if they so chose, but they were no longer attached to Canvas any longer.Furthermore, I believe there has been a miscommunication regarding the entities involved. CashApp, not my credit card issuer, contacted me about the partial refund, asserting that I needed to repay $123.55 to Grammarly. Since the transactions were processed through PayPal, I am unsure why CashApp is involved in this matter at all.As of today, Cash App took $123.55 out of my Cash App account and returned it to Grammarly. Not $141- which is the amount that Grammarly took out of Cashapp initially, but the other amount: the mistaken tax and the $111 payment Grammarly had given for my headache and distress in this matter (which was really their way of sayoing "Yeah, we did take the money out of your account before the ***** trial had run out and we messed up, but we aren't willing to admit it, so take this and shut up!"). However, of course, since I had never received accesss to the Premium features, I wasn't willing to accept that. Please:1) Refund the total amount you owe me, and send it to my PayPal ********** Clarify why CashApp was involved or paid Grammarly in the first place.I hope we can resolve this issue swiftly and amicably. Please feel free to reach out to me directly at my email for any additional information or clarification.Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.Review from Maureen G

I have no idea how Grammarly works. Sometimes it's there, other times not. I tried to cancel Grammarly immediately at the end of my trial but it was too late. Okay, but let me know how I can use this service while you use my annual fee. Thank you.Grammarly, Inc. Response

There is no way to contact them directly. The phone number provided for customer service does not provide customer service. No matter what option you press, it refers you back to their website and then hangs up. There is no email, you have to submit an e-ticket on their website. If a business is going to charge nearly $150 for a service, there should be customer service. I want my money back.Grammarly, Inc. Response

I woke up and found that I was charged USD144 for Grammarly, and after logging into the account, I realized I had been charged last year as well! I tried to call them, but there is no way to talk with customer service! And no one answered my refund request! Such a scam! I didn't even know that my subscription would be renewed automatically, and I didn't even know I had a subscription with them. They don't answer my message! There is no one that I can discuss my refund request for both 2 years with them! This is not fair!Grammarly, Inc. Response

Grammarly subscriptions automatically renew until they are canceled, and subscriptions that aren't canceled before the start of a new billing cycle will be charged for a new subscription period. We apologize for any misunderstanding in this regard. As an exception to our refund policy, your subscription has been deactivated, and two renewal payments have been reversed. It may take up to ten business days for the refunds to appear on your statement, depending on your payment method. I woke up today the 2nd of February to a charge of ****** dollars on my credit card from Grammarly. I emailed the Grammarly, and apparently, they had renewed my subscription for a year, at over double the price without a single notice to announce the hike or inform me that I am being signed up for another year. I requested to cancel the subscription and get a refund on my card on the same day it was charged but they declined saying I am basically stuck with them for another year with or without my consent. I pleaded but they have since refused to respond to emails. I do not think this is fair especially to a customer who has been with you for a year of their own volition but whom you are now trying to tie down for another year without their consent. Again, I ask that you kindly review your stance on this issue.Grammarly, Inc. Response
