I rented an RV from 4/26/24-4/30/24 from El Monte RV in **********. Close to the pickup, they informed me that they only have extra large available instead of what I reserved. My only options at the time then were to either cancel my whole trip, or just accept, so I accepted.At no point in the process did the salesperson explain the insurance options to me, and on the day of pickup he told me that I would be able to use my own coverage, and had me sign to waive additional coverage. On my personal insurance, I purchase the highest level of liability coverage I can in order to protect myself and my family. The sales person led me to believe my personal coverage would cover liability for when I drive the *** I got into an accident on 4/27/24, and I have come to find out, that my insurance would not cover the liability. I was a first time RV renter so I trusted the sales person that I could use my own liability coverage, as it would be extremely foolish to drive without liability coverage. When I returned the *** the sales person also admitted that if I had gotten the vehicle I originally reserved, that I would not have had the accident, as all the impact occurred from the extra size of the extra large vehicle. On return he then again assured me that I could go through my insurance. It wasn't until a few weeks later that I found out my insurance would not be covering.I have correspondence with El Monte customer care saying that the salesperson should have explained the coverage options, and that they always recommend customers check with their own insurance. The sales person did none of these. If he had did any of these I would have obviously purchased liability coverage to cover us during the trip, as I personally get the highest liability coverage I can get. I have already paid for the damage to the *** I don't expect to get this back, as I am uncertain if I would've gotten the full coverage or not, but I would certainly have gotten liability insurance.
