My wife and I joined this gym in April, 2023. During the onboarding, the agreement we signed said that cancellation required a 30-day advance written notification. We were provided with a free app by the business, which included the ability to make reservations and manage our accounts. Between the two of us, the monthly fee was $162. In late July, we opted to cancel our membership. Each of us, separately used the app provided to cancel our account, a feature explicitly offered by the app, although the app provides the customer with no documentation that the action was completed.. We assumed this would meet the requirement of a written notification. However, we were charged the full fees for August. When we called, we were told we had to fill out and sign a specific form, and that they would email us the form. We never received it, and we were then charged a full fee for September. On September 25, we went in person to seek a resolution. They told us the app cancellation feature affects our accounts, not our memberships (no explanation as to what the difference is, other that we are still billed if our accounts are cancelled). The representative said he would cancel our membership while we were there, but that because it needed 30 days notice, we would still be billed for October as well. Despite working in good faith, we are being billed $486 for three full months of non-use following our attempt to cancel our membership.
