I took my dog in on July 9 for several symptoms: Vomiting, Lethargy, Diarrhea, Dry Heaving, and Loss of Appetite. This emergency clinic demanded an appointment and a pre-paid **** payment in order to see my dog (seems strange for an emergency clinic). I'm never allowed in the building with my dog, so I have no idea what they did or didn't do to my dog. I'm presented with an insane suite of tests they want to do in order to treat my dog, with the price being ****** I declined and explained this was likely a reaction to a medication that had been administered, and just wanted to ensure there was nothing life-threatening and maybe something to ease his pain. They had no other options. I was charged **** for this. I went to a different emergency clinic two days later, told them the exact same thing, and was in the exam room with my dog the entire time. As is normal, a rectal exam was performed on my dog and blood was found. A treatment plan was drawn up. That entire visit only cost ***** If he doesn't get better, they had a similar test suite as the first clinic, only their price was ****** I don't believe South Bay Animal Hospital ever performed an exam on my dog, if they did, they would have discovered blood in his rectum. They made no mention of this, and in response to a **** review they said "It would be negligent if the clinician did not mention anything abnormal found on exam, whether or not it was related to the presenting complaint. You had paid for an emergency consult, so the clinician was going to relay anything and everything abnormal found on the exam." Blood in the rectum would be abnormal, yet they made not mention of that. Which is proof no exam was performed. I paid **** for an "emergency consult" but I didn't get one. I got scammed instead, at the expense of my dog's health. They also didn't provide me with a receipt, so I've attached their ***** estimate.

Our 1-year-old cat with jaundice and lethargy was brought into South Bay Animal Hospital at *************************************, where **. ********* *** works. The cat developed these symptoms one week after vaccination and treatment with de-worming medication, and I asked whether drug toxicity-related hepatitis is a possibility. **. *** asked for a $2000 deposit and charged over $1700 for evaluation, blood tests, and x-ray. Subcutaneous fluid was included in the quote. Four hours later, she called me to inform me the liver function tests were abnormal and recommended additional tests. She was unable to provide an adequate differential diagnosis but said the cat either has fatty liver disease (potentially due to not eating or drinking for days) or lymphoma. She indicated that someone who can perform ultrasound is there and insisted repeatedly that the cat should have this test which costs $1000. Given the cat was lethargic and dehydrated, I asked whether she had given the cat fluids, and she said she hadn't. This was 4.5 hours after the cat was brought in for lethargy and jaundice, which is exacerbated by dehydration. I was concern about **. ***'s medical judgment and incompetence and decided to take the cat away since I did not trust anything she said. She then recommended that I purchase an appetite stimulant mirtazapine. I quickly searched on the internet and found out that this drug is cleared by the liver, which can lead to toxicity in animal with liver failure. At that point, she recommended that the cat be admitted. When I picked up the cat, **. *** did not come out to talk to me. She sent a technician who brought the cat out and asked me to sign an AMA (against medical advice). I took the cat home, and he was eating and drinking and didn't require any treatment. In sum, **. ***'s failure to perform appropriate basic veterinary medical care, incompetence, and unprofessionalism raised serious concerns regarding her ability to practice as a veterinarian.
