I was given a gift card (GC) as a Christmas gift from a family member in 2018. The GC was intended for in-store use only and although the issuing dealership was close to the purchaser's residence it was not close to my residence. I kept the GC with the intent of making the trip to the issuing business. I was involved in a motorcycle accident in Dec. 2020 while on my way to the dealership resulting in no need to make any further purchases. However, I now own a motorcycle again and I made the trip to the dealership on April 20th, 2022. My intent was to use the GC to pay for a portion of my transaction. Having no ability to know how much was added to the GC at the time of purchase and the family member not being able to recall the amount either, I simply had faith that the GC amount would be read at the register and the available balance would be honored. One of the parts that I intended to purchase was not in stock so my total purchase came to $******. When I handed the GC to the sales associate, ***, he looked at the card and told me that they no longer issued this type of gift card and he said that he had no way of verifying the amount on the card. He then asked for the purchaser's name and approximate date of purchase so he could ask his accounting department to locate the transaction records. *** told me that paper archives would have to be searched so we agreed that I would make the purchase of the parts on hand and later be credited for the GC balance once the records were located. I followed up today, April 26th, 2022 and was placed on the line with the manager who explained to me that he could not honor my request as the purchase made in 2018 by my family member was on file but the GC was not included in credit card transaction record but that they had a record for cash purchase transaction on the same day for a GC purchase. The manager, ****, told me that my GC balance could not be verified and he was unwilling to make any resolution regardless of any amount.
