My rear view mirror fell off in my vehicle and needed to be re-applied. I called an auto-repair shop and asked how much it would generally cost to have it be reapplied and they said “If you need it to be replaced they would most likely charge, otherwise, they can just plop it back on for you and I am unsure if they would charge for that.” On June 20, 2024, I drove to the Santa Monica Hyundai Service Department and they referred me to a glass auto shop that is contracted with them, called Class Auto Glass, and told me to tell them “Hyundai referred you, your rear view mirror fell off and it just needs to be reapplied”. When I arrived at Class Auto Glass, I told one of the workers my situation and how I was referred. He said he would help, applied the glue to my rear view mirror, and plopped it back on. The operation took 7 minutes. After I asked the charge for it, if there was one, he told me $75. This took 7 minutes and he was charging me $75? That would mean he would be charging me about $10.70 a minute which is completely unacceptable. I tried combatting and he just said “Every service has its charges.” I asked if there were at least discounts and coupons and he said “We usually charge $125 but I am already giving you a discount” which I believe is completely false. When I asked why he didn’t tell me the price before then, all he did was shrug his shoulders and stick out the card reader. In order to get out of the situation I just paid and left. I believe he was taking advantage of me because I was a girl that seemed to not know anything about cars. He took my rear view mirror, applied glue, and placed it back in its correct position. This took 7 minutes. He charged me $75. He gave no estimate when I explained to him my problem, I didn't sign anything, and there were no additional parts. This is inappropriate and I wouldn't want anyone to be taken advantage of like how I was and scammed out of paying unreasonable prices.
