This complaint is about LA JOLLA EMERGENCY SPECIALISTS. I was a patient at the Emergency Room of ************************* in ************************* on 03/16/23. I was seen by Dr. ***** **** ** *****. I started receiving a bill from La Jolla Emergency Specialists for $700+ (my insurance company said no claim was ever filed with them). I tried contacting the phone number on the bill and the number was not in service (temporarily unavailable), this went on for months! I finally was able to get ahold of a woman named ******* on the non-billing local number for La Jolla Emergency Specialists. She stated that because of a billing company change and data hack there was issues with processing bills at this time. She said her supervisor would call me back which never happened. The bills stopped coming for quite some time, however a couple weeks ago I started receiving the bills again at my new address. I once again called the billers number on the invoice ************ and someone did answer. They said they were from "Optum Billing" but stated they are no longer contracted with La Jolla Emergency Specialists and that I would have to call LJES main office. I have wasted countless hours trying to get this resolved. I'm not sure if La Jolla Emergency Specialists are a scam or the people that work there are just incompetent? I would like for someone to contact me back, contact my insurance, contact billing at Scripps or zero at the balance they claim I owe! This has been going on for over 2 years which is completely absurd and unacceptable!Business Response

We have contacted the patient and let him know that the issue was with the billing company who will no longer address any of our billing matters as we switched companies. However because of his frustration, we have spoken with him and will not attempt any collection efforts with Medi *** with whom he was insured at the time.Initial Complaint

This is a complaint about La Jolla Emergency Specialists.I visited ************************* early July 2024, for UTI. After the visit, the **************** sent me a bill for over $2900 for that few minute visit without being hospitalized or being given a room. In that bill, they already charged me $2415 for *********** in addition to lab, pharmacy, etc. charges. Now I have received a bill from La Jolla Emergency Specialists for $868 for ER exam from which I have to pay $298.85. Apparently the La Jolla ES is an out of network service in contract with *************************. The hospital did not mention to me that their doctor is an out-of-network doctor or I would not have used the service. I cannot pay this balance, and I'll file a complaint with the ************************ for balance billing, which is an illegal activity both in CA and federally, committed by La Jolla ES, if they don't cancel this bill.Initial Complaint

La Jolla Emergency Specialists is duplicate billing me on a trip to ************************* La Jolla. The payment due to them is slightly less than the payment my insurance covered. Ive researched this and it appears this practice is called balance billing and is illegal under both federal and state law.Business Response

I am not sure I understand the way this was written, but assume that she means that she received a bill from our billing company for payment due beyond what her insurance allowed or paid. We do no balance bill. There could be a co-pay or deductible that is involved here which is not balance billing. If this is not the case then we should correct the error. I would suggest she contact our billing company to solve the problem, or contact our on-site representative at ************.Initial Complaint

I keep getting bills for *********************** addressed to my address. No person by that name lives at this address. They have the wrong address. This is now the second time I've received a bill for this person. I simply ask that they stop sending bills addressed to this person at my address.Initial Complaint

This is regarding account number: ****************. On January 10, 2023 I visited the emergency room of ******* hospital where I was being seen for IVF treatments by my in-network ******************************************************* Nine months later in October I received a bill for $765.00 from an apparently out-of-network provider *****************************. When I went to the ** I was not warned that this doctor was out of my network and this appears to be an illegal form of billing called balance billing. I am not going to pay this bill and I want my balance zeroed out or else I will file a complaint with the ********** ********** of ******************* and seek further action.
