In December of 2023, I verbally signed up with soon-to open South Pasadena Club Pilates. I made it clear I wanted to pay month by month in cash and was informed that would not be a problem after charging the first month on my credit card. I was told they would open at the beginning of ******* of 2024 and that paying cash was acceptable. They did not open in ******* 2024 due to "delivery problems" of the necessary pilates equipment and instead eventually opened sometime in February 2024. I was never offered a refund for my *******-February $129.99 dues since they never opened in ******* as I was informed they would. They also charged my credit card on March 5th, against my explicit instructions, for dues. I never used their facilities due to a shoulder injury that prevented me from using their equipment. When I spoke with their "business manager" she informed me I must submit a doctor's note and $100.00 termination fee before terminating my membership. At no time was I ever informed that a doctor's note was required (this isn't school or work!!!) or that there was a $100.00 termination fee and until I submitted both, they would keep my credit card on file to continue to charge me dues. They refuse to refund my March 5th dues of $129.00 and threatened me with a bad credit report if I didn't pay up. I've had to cancel my credit card so they cannot keep charging me dues. Their business practices are extremely shady and threatening people is illegal. I want my refund for ******* of $129.00 because they did not open when they stated they would yet still charged me. I also want a refund for $129.00 they charged me for March 2024. And to demand a doctor's not is beyond the pale and violates HIPPA rules. I am a Registered Nurse who can no longer able to work due to my should injury. I should not have to violate HIPPA rules by allowing South Pasadena Club Pilates, that is not a health care business or facility, any formation regarding my health or injury status.
